First Oil Change?

My Yaris is about 6 or 7 weeks old now.... about 4,000 km on it or so. I love it so far. However, I was wondering when I should take it for the first oil change? I feel like I should soon, but the maintenance schedule to given to me shows 8,000 km for the first oil and filter service.

Any advice? 8,000 seems a little high for the first oil change.

1.00000 Kilometer = 0.62137 Miles

I am going to change to synthetic (mobil 1) at 5000 and that will be my first oil change.

8000.00000 Kilometers = 4970.96954 Miles

KM is an abbrevation for Kitten Mitten. You know like, Three Little Kittens Lost Their Mittens....etc etc etc.

It's Kilometers, Metric, European, Canadian...that stuff. Equal to .6 miles (or so) . If your honking down the highway at 100kms, you are only doing 60-63 miles an hour. I use .6 for easy math. I know someone is going to chime in with a number that has 50 numbers to the right of the decimal right into infinity.

8000kms are approx. 4800 miles. (my math)

In french, we use it the other way around, there are 1.609 kilometers in a mile, and 1-6-0-9, which is pronounced the same as "un ciseaux neuf" (a new scissors). Easy!

i changed mine at 2500 miles after reading a post about an 07 tundra changing his at about 2500 miles. here's a pic of the metal shavings found in the pleats of his dissected oil filter:

an oil change with mobil1 and a factory filter is $25 which is about the price of one tank of gas. why not do the first change early and get all that metal outta there? i got to switch to synthetic and it also gave me a chance to put in a magnetic drain plug.
