Hailstorm :(

It happened while at work this morning, I didn't have a chance to drive it inside the factory area, I could have parked it inside but this storm came out of nowhere. I have 1 dent in my hood, and numerous dents on the roof. :( Some of the hail was way over 1" in diameter.

that stinks, hope your insurance will take care of it. You could always chop the top and have a Yaris convertible.

Yes, indoor parking if there is room! I almost stayed home from work today, and it would have been in the garage there. My insurance should cover, less the $100 deductible.

My sympathies. What rotten luck! I sued to have a boat moored in open water and you had to watch the weather VERY carefull. If it rained too much and the auto bailer didnt work the boat could sink! High winds could cause the mooring to shift and destroy it. It was SO depressing being a slave to the weather it was almost a relieft when we had to sell it.

But as far as the dammage goes its a blow to have your nice new car get crudded up.

However its a fact that over time you will come to accept the dammage as part of your car. Time is the key. After a while it will seem normal. Just like an annoying noise will...

BTW the people who brought us global warming say the increase in world temperatures will be the cause of much more severe outbreaks such as the hailstorm you experienced.

That would indeed seem to be the case given all the tornadoes down south last year and this so far.

Its worth mentioning this forecast by the EXPERTS happened not before but AFTER last years devestating tornadoes. They failed to predict it.

That's a bummer about your boat, bronsin. I was just now accepting the little ding I got in the Walmart parking lot when it was only 2 weeks old! I will be getting the hail damage fixed. I can't stand anything like this happening to my car. At first I noticed only the one ding on my hood, and I was going to let that one go, then one of the guys here at work said "look at all of them on the roof!".

Just 80 miles south of me an entire town was wiped out by a tornado when the 2nd line of storms moved through. It could have been a lot worse.

I am scared shitless of hailstorms, we get some serious ones here in southcentral Texas. So far over the past three-and-a-half years I have been lucky, but one of these days I fear that luck may run out. I don't have room inside my garage for the Yaris (there's a Jeep and two motorcycles in there), so I would have to find some way to try and cover it to absorb the hail.

That said, the modern paintless dent removal techniques can work wonders, you may want to check that route before going to a traditional paint & body shop.

Cheers! M2

A few years back a buddy bought 2 hail damaged BRAND NEW Subaru Outbacks. CHEAP.They looked like they had been gone over by a 6 year old with a ball peen hammer, maybe 50 or more just in the hood, even in the side panels! When he popped the hood and showed me the like new engine, he made his point, in his case it's all about function, he and his wife are still driving them. The funny thing is their name is Hale! Bummer for you though.

That sucks, Debby. I'm in Cincinnati. Bad storms yesterday.
I love your Yaris color. And an MT to boot. Nice. My Yaris is black.
Black paint sucks.

Sorry to see that . Years ago we bought a new '92 Eagle Summit sedan ( Mitsubishi ) and after getting it home we noticed small dimples on the hood and roof of the car . You had to look at it in a certain angle and lighting to see them . We called and told them of the dimples and they said you're stuck with the car . So they had to be aware of the damage . Kept it close to 2 years and sold it to an indivisual . We too dread that day , being how violent the weather is now . Best of luck .

they probably helped him get better gas mileage too.

I was stuck in grapefruit(maybe up to watermelon) sized hail in Tennessee. So glad the car was a rental, the poor people who lived there had their cars destroyed. We were stuck in a wall mart, it sounded like the entire building was about to come down. The poor people in the car next to us had both the windshield and rear window smashed, when they opened the doors the water was covering the seats and came flooding out. Every car had massive damage.

I agree, PDR is your friend. I had PDR done in the summer to remove a ding and a crease on a door, and the results were amazing. I have no clue anymore where the ding and the crease were, because there is no trace of it left. And it was only $150, and worth every penny. I actually had it done at a body shop, but they didn't do it themselves (they brought in a specialist). There's no reason to fear door dings or hailstorms. As long as the paint is intact, everything can be fixed to look like new. Just take it to someplace reputable, and you have nothing to worry about. There is no reason to accept damage as a fact of life, as some people here are suggesting. Everything's fixable.

That's what I'm looking for, a PDR place, but it seems like the only ones that come up for me on a Google search are on the far northside of Indy. With PDR, do they have to keep your car for several days, or is it a while-you-wait type of repair?

Nobody commented on your statement "they probably helped him get better gas mileage too." So, I will...... yeah I asked him that, but he isn't the type to keep track. You are no doubt talking about the aerodynamic effect of golf ball type dimples, that actually reduce drag and make it slippier? I agree, his was so hammered it may be golf ball like in boundry layer retention! I may see it today, if so I'll try and get a picture.

call a local car dealer and ask who they use. They all have routes that go through local car dealers. Their are a few companies that do franchises, and they get a pickup with the stuff they need to drive around. A friend of mine does that.

It is usually a while you wait type of thing.
