Does EFI cleaning helps with mileage?

I haven't done EFI cleaning since 50,000km, car has 130,000km right now.

My mileage has dropped because of the winter but should I do EFI cleaning, how much mileage benefit will I get from it, because dealership is charging me $140

EFI cleaning can definitely help, as injectors that are gummed up will not properly atomize the fuel. Running a pour in the tank cleanser will typically not do much of a job of cleaning the injectors though.

Is it a myth to use a tank of high octane gas (93/94) a couple times a year to prevent injectors from gumming?

Yeah, I second this question..you hear folks say that the detergents and other stuff in today's better gases (e.g. Shell) pretty much keep the injectors rather clean.

Any thoughts on this?

I do it (with 91 octane), don't know if it really helps. And in my car, summer blend and 91 octane, I actually get worse mpgs (opposite for winter blend. I do it once a month unless 91 is really expensive

My engine's compression is near new, get good mpg despite how my car is set up, engine doesn't make any weird sounds, etc.

Then again, I also use Seafoam once a year. LOL

We get about the same MPG, but you drive 55-75 and I drive 55-60. I thought, is it just re incorporating feedback that the Scan Gauge provides (I don't have a Scan Gauge)? Or are there other possible reasons? Then I saw this post and looked around on the Sea Foam website. I'm going to have to get some of that motor treatment!

I think it has to do with my car set up. K&N SRI, (wrong size) 2.25" resonator back exhaust, CR-Lite crank pulley, and my heavy 43.5 lb wheel/tire combo. When Brian let me drive his LB, 55-60 mph gave me the best mpg.

A SGII really helps with mpg. I would have been getting lower mpg's (lower than I can get) if I kept driving 55 mph and not conduct my own tests.

I also use nothing but Chevron for gas, and Amsoil for engine oil and MT lube. I also have max psi in all four tires.

Yup, can't beat once a year oil changes. My oil is still pretty clear considering I last changed my oil in August 2012.

Not only that, it protects better. My compression test shows that. And it gets better mpg.

Thanks for the input, Kaotic and others. I think I'm going to buy some Sea Foam Motor Treatment in the next couple of weeks and a Scan Gauge either at the same time (if I can convince myself I won't be obsessive right off the bat re using it ) or later this Summer (if I think I'll be obsessive right off the bat). My 'new' tires (about 15,000 miles ago) are the same model as my previous set, but the max psi is now 40 rather than 44...not really germain since anything over 38 (which I sustain), personally...just me, feels like driving on rocks on these tires...great tires though...got 85k out of the last set. When I eventually say goodbye to this Yaris (for a new Yaris), I'll probably use AMSOIL right off the bat, and change the exhaust as many of you have.

Which stock tires did yours come with the Eagle LS or the Potenza's?

I don't mind harsh rides, 205/40/17 (stretched in the rear) and 51 psi (cold).

I don't remember. I'm curious though, I'll have to check. Looking at an old post on one of the mileage/repair threads I know they lasted 71,480 miles. IIRC, I replaced them here in the Houston Metro before going on a trip. I replaced them with a Wal-Mart product and that set lasted 70,073 miles. IIRC, both the OEMs and the Wal-Mart set were 60,000 mile tires. One of those blew a few miles south of Carlisle, PA. I was able to get to (and around) Carlisle re a can of sealant I had with me. I shopped all around Carlisle and got a great deal on my first set of Firestone FR710s (a 65,000 mile tire). That set lasted me 85,009 miles (liked them a lot). I then (last year) ordered a new set of FR710s at my local Firestone dealer and went in for the install on the designated day. I walked out to my car after the install, and the wrong tires were on the car! I pointed this out and was told they forgot to do my order so they upgraded me for free to the Affinity Touring model . I drove on those for I think a couple thousand miles and did not like them. I went back and made them put new FR710s on. I recently posted that I just rotated those at about 15k miles, but it must have been a lower number (I forgot to take the brief time with the Affinity Touring into account). I like this set of FR710s pretty much as much as the previous set.

Wow, you've had really good luck with tires.

I'm trying to find a set of tires for when my current tires (came with the rims, we basically new and some generic brand made in Japan) wear down. Looking for a balance of life and grip since I do like to take on/off ramps faster than the suggested speed (then again, it seems like everyone and their mother takes on/off ramps way faster than the suggested speed).
