Gymkhana at El Toro AFB,This Saturday

I'm taking the Yaris out since my other cars are down... if anyone's in the area and wants to stop by, it should be a good time! They're running "fun runs" from 12:00-1:00 PM for only $5 where you can try it out, just bring a helmet :)

See you there! www.gymkhanausa.com

It seems to be getting more popular again I was the only Yaris at this event, but the organizer was very excited by the overall turnout and seemed very hopefull that more of us will turn up for future events

Here are some pics from last weekends event:

Yes it was! That tall white cone to my left is a pivot cone where you have to circle 420 degrees around it. I would go in fast and yank the e-brake to get the rear end spun around, then gas, then e-brake once more. People where asking if the things rwd

According to the site, my best time was 59.12 sec. I know I had a few better times, but they didn't time us till the afternoon and had trouble with the equipment so I only got 2 or 3 timed runs. My best timed run was actually 57.xx but I moved a cone on that one which adds 5 sec. to the time. My roommate had second fastest time in his turbo 4AG powered Super 7 which ran a 53.80, most of the average WRX, S2K, Elise, 350Z, Corvette, 240SX, etc.. all ran over 1:01.00 so I'm not too disappointed

Well not exactly "drifting" but put the car in reverse, turn the wheel all the way, and step on it

Hah! I guess this makes me old school too. I used to run these with Datsun 510s in the day.

So how was your e-brake after the day? Did you have to readjust it?
Did you increase your rear tire pressure and did you run with sway bars? I don't think you had swaybars, but figured you ran a higher tire pressure in the rear.

Great pics BTW, Awesome run!

The e-brake works fine and didn't need any adjustment. Drum brakes actually lock up nice

I did install a "spin turn knob" or "drift knob" on the e-brake handle half-way through the day which made it much easier since I didn't have to worry about pressing the button to release the brake. I was surprised to find out the same knob from my AE86 Corolla fits the Yaris threads perfect

My car still uses the stock front sway bar and no rear bar. Only suspension mods are the SK coilovers and some R-compound Bridgestone tires with 32psi all around. The rear tires never really had a chance to heat up so they broke loose pretty easily.

Very Nice!! And all you other Yaris people itching to try autocross go to www.scca.org, look under the SOLO tab and you can find events in your area. The season is just starting so easy to find. Also any SCCA member will be more than happy to answer questions if you first time out.
