You cant use a turbo for 2.4 (RDX) on a 1.5. And the eco boost motors use Garrett gt15's on the V6, Borg Warner K03 for the 2.0 & the Borg Warner KP39 for the 1.6. None are variable.

And even if the were variable those turbo would cost a fortune & the flanges would have to be custom made.

long time since post, but i found a source fora genuine Garrett Gt2554 journal bearing. $100 used but in great shape. and if it blows up... i go get another for $100 lol.
so now to order a 3psi actuator, clock the turbo, find a way to mount the actuator, ceramic coat the exhaust pieces.

its so nice to have this turbo project back on track, not excited to but a stand alone though :( need to find a good stand alone for cheep that will work along side the factory ecu.

Great find on the Garrett.

Standalones don't work "along with" the factory ECU -- they work instead of.

as long ad they completely control the air fuel and spark you can use the factory ecu to control all the other non horsepower stuff like an auto transmission and other bits. so they do work "along with".

You get what you pay for.

Not sure why anyone would look for the cheapest stuff to build horsepower with. It's a time bomb waiting to happen. Building cars isn't for someone that needs to cut corners. In the end you pay the price for not going down the right path.
so your saying don't buy used parts? dont look for deals? my garret was a waste of money? a Haltec sprint 500 on sale or used is a time bomb? im no newb to modding cars. thanks for your input...

You are talking about a Piggyback like the FIC and eManage, etc. Garm is correct...a standalone is a full replacement of the ECU and if not mistaken the ECM in some or all cases?

If the management is fooling the ECU (sensors still hooked up to ECU; management intercepting signals and modifying them) and controlling fuel, spark and sometimes timing, that is a piggyback. If sensors are wired directly to the management, completely bypassing the factory ECU, that would be standalone.

This is my understanding of the words; I don't think anyone is right or wrong here.

And hell yeah, I would buy used parts if I knew where they came from and who was selling them.

Not a piggy back a stand alone, stock ecu cannot be fooled, we have tried and aem is even stumped. All fuel air and spark sensors are hooked up and have complete control, but stock ecu stays in place to help with all other bits like trans shift points. Do some reading and it will come clear. 1.5 knows, as he put it using a standalone "inline".

I just don't know why you'd want to do that with an Echo, what is there to control that a standalone couldn't handle?

That type of thing is usually done for more expensive vehicles.

well, finally clocked the turbo and fitted it to the manifold. need to make a custom waste gate bracket and the fit to the car. this turbo is easily larger than the Greddy setup. here some pics! everything will be ceramic coated black, the compressor housing will be pink to keep the theme of the ladys car.
