Connecting wiring to small trailer

I have a Class I trailer hitch on my 2008 LB, which I have used for a two bicycle carrier. I need to pull a very light weight trailer to haul
six bikes. Total weight is less than 300lbs (tongue weight about 30lbs)
I need to connect Yaris wiring to trailer.
Which type of trailer wiring rig do I need?
There seem to be three options.
1) directly tap into the rear light wire loom for each trailer light
2) use a trailer converter module which gets its 12VDC from the rear wires
3) use a trailer converter module which has to have a new 12VDC power
wire run up to the battery

I don't want to damage any auto-electronics...

Man, I can't help you with the wiring, but I would LOVE IT if you would post some pics of the bike trailer you are talking about. I use a hitch rack for mine, but when I got to race, I sometimes need to carry 4 bikes (2 road/ 2 TT) and it's a bit much for my rack, so I was interested in getting a trailer and doing what you are talking about. I'd be really interested in seeing what your setup looks like. PM me or post some on this thread if you wouldn't mind. It would really help me out making my decison. I'll be watching this thread also to see what resolution there is for the wiring. Good luck with that.

#2 - You will need a converter to "merge" the turn and tail lights if your trailer has a standard 4 pin harness. You don't need the #3 style converter, as the Yaris's lighting uses simple relay based switching.

Also, does anyone have the color codes for a liftback?

No, you would need this type, as you need to combine the tail, stop and turn lights together for the 4 pin trailer harness.

So, all of the functions work independently, but when both the tail lights and one of the blinkers are turned on, the blinker doesn't light, but the tail does?

Stupid me!

I bought a trailer-wire tester at canadian Tire (its a little plug what you can put into the 4-way plug car-side, what has little lets on it shows you the tail-light, and turning signals blink up on test). but but but, those test plugs dont work!!! i was already figuring for 1 day..how come how come it doesnt work!.

thyen decided to use a normal volt tester, and it just shows that it is working!

No Taiwan testers for me anymore
