I thought perhaps there was a vacant ECU connector position that was used by the CAN bus to send juice to the dash light when the cruise was activated.

nickhjort pulled apart his cruise-indicator-free combo meter and I had him check the outputs of the IC that drives the LEDs, before and after activating cruise. The hope was that we'd find an unused output that would be used to drive the cruise LED if present. Unfortunately, no such luck.

I'm confused. I've seen someone ask if this can be done on an 08 Yaris LB with no cruise light on the dash, but haven't seen a solid answer. provided I tap the ECM as mentioned earlier, I should be able to do this mod just with no indicator, correct? The ECM cruise programming is there regardless, right?

Correct. Nickhjort has proven that it will work on 07-08 Yaris which do not have the indicator, by directly connecting the the ECM.

I used to have a Pontiac with cruise control and no indicator lights. In my experience, there's no light actually needed - it's quite obvious whether the cruise is on or off simply from how the car behaves. As for the "Set" light, you'll know immediately if the speed isn't set because the car slows down when you take your foot off the gas.

I'm going to install cruise on my '08 with the proper switch and very tidy wiring when I get around to it. The goal is to make a sufficiently tidy installation that even a Toyota tech will think it's factory, and it will take a lot of looking to prove otherwise.

However, I'm not even going to try for indicator lights. It would be nice, but you don't really need them.

OK, almost have the cruise install complete. I have the 08 Yaris LB with no cruise light on the dash. I tapped the ECM a-21 connector @ position 40 and ran the wire to the cruise on/off switch on the dash.
Last question: How do I wire the new clutch switch I just installed? Does the wire from the ecm go to the clutch switch first, and then continue to the cruise on/off switch on the dash?

expo2, no you do not put the clutch switch in series with the cruise circuit. In fact you put it in series instead of the jumper wire stated on page 21 of this "DIY" HERE

See my post...#371.

Instead of placing the jumper wire in those two slots (as shown in the pics), simply go from one slot to the clutch switch, then back to the other slot.
Try to picture your clutch switch in place of my fuse in the pictures.

I will be making my own clutch switch tomorrow and I will take plenty of pics.

Hope this helps :)

Dah, I feel like an idiot and then some. I don't know how I missed your original pics of the clutch switch jumper wires.
Thanks for your help.

No problem. Glad to help :) I will be starting my custom clutch switch here shortly. I have to go find a switch. Then I'll post pictures later this evening.

This is the only mod I've ever done that involved the ECM, can someone kindly enlighten me as to it's location? I believe it is in the engine compartment, right?

Exactly - it's on the right side of the engine compartment.

pardon my ignorance, do you mean right as in while you are in the car or right as though you are facing the engine compartment while standing at the front of the car?

Right side of the car as you sit in the driver's seat - the passenger side, in other words.
