Ordered. CTScott you were definitely right about how addicting it is to abuse your car's electrical system. Now I'll have something to tinker with while you figure out what's wrong with my OC ECU.

Nice! That's why I would never lease a vehicle. There is no way I could prevent myself from monkeying with the electrical system.

I've always been more into the mechanical stuff, but I'm starting to really get into the electrical side with this car. Any chance you've figured out the push-button start? I think that's my next project after seeing echo's thread.

Push button start would be fairly easy to do. To really do it right would require a bunch of parts from one of the markets where it is available.

The problem is that for our USDM cars you would still need to stick the key in to unlock the steering. You could mechanically bypass the steering lock, but then you make your car a whole lot easier to steal. Also, the OEM system uses an RFID smart card (along the same lines as the key transponder). You'd really want to implement something like that to make the car less grabbable as well.

Hmm it looks like I might table this idea for a while then, at least until I get the SRS and now the windows completed.

Seems kinda silly to have push-button start if I still have to use the key to unlock the steering. And I'd hate to make my car more vulnerable to theft.

couldn't you get something like what the maximas do now, where you have a proxy chip on the key so that you can push button start it as long as the key is in the car (like in your pocket)?

Yes, that's the RFID device. That requires an RFID tag and some type of reader.

How readily available are these RFID devices and readers?

Readily available. They are used in everything from the automated toll tags to ID badges to anti-theft devices in stores. The tags are typically very inexpensive (under $1 for passive tags). Readers can range from as cheap as $25 to $3000+.

Radioshack actually sells a development kit for $49 that includes a reader and two button tags.

I would definitely need your expertise with this, but if it's something I can get my hands on easily, I might have to go for it.

I know newer Vettes have no key what so ever all you have is a key fob that unlocks the doors, steering and they have push buton start. That I think be cool on a yaris

Would be nice if Toyota had that too... The technology's there, why can't they use it?
i actually was looking into getting the in channel window vent shades from toyota. The local dealership told me if I had auto-up windows that the in-channel visors might cause the window to not fully roll up.... dude made it sound like the toyota auto-up windows had a sensor installed to back off if it met any resistance.

I don't have auto-up windows.... just auto-down so it doesn't matter to me...

the 09 Rav4 i rented has auto up/down drivers window. I actually got annoyed with it trying to only open the window a crack to vent the LA heat. I looked like an idiot rolling the windows up and down trying to figure it out.

I may be wrong but, I aways understood that auto up was always avalible for the JDM for most cars but never exported.
I guess the Japaneese liability laws are much different than in most countries.

I wonder if auto up is avalible for the JDM yaris?

Maybe JDM kids keep their hands and heads inside of the vehicle at all times.

If it is available on the JDM Yaris, it would be a bit of an issue to put on ours because the master window control is on the opposite door. The $50 DEI module would definitely be the cheapest/easiest way to get auto up/down on all windows.

just chiming in

I just had a 2008 Scion tC.

On the drivers side are the two switches which both do FULL up and down. The passenger side has a single switch with Full up and down. There is no resistance sensing switch that I was ever able to tell. In fact you just kept holding the switch up or down to program the full open or close distance.

BTW I looked see if they could be adapted to the Yaris, but no go unless you want to do some soldering.

BEST thing is adding the DEI 530T (given that you have a Directed alarm).
