Today was Yaris smashing day ...

Yes .... today was the day that I smashed the Yaris.

It was me vs a 2015 Nissan Rogue. I can assure you ... the Yaris lost.

Me ... $1200 damage and him $2000 min probably.

My damage .. a new bumper cover with painting. Him .. about a pencil eraser worth of damage that you can hardly see. But .. lets face it, his repairs will not be anywhere near as cheap as mine.

Me .. I am just mad, cause crashing at 5 km/h or less is just not fun. I would almost rather have it be much more damage .. at least make it worth while.

So me .. probably increased insurance rates and a much lower bank account.

But it is what it is .. not a matter of it, but when. Living in a winter city ... that is what I get.

3rd accident in 3 years. But this time .. it was my fault for a change.

Oh .. don't buy all weather tires, they suck on anything but tons of snow.

So for me .. true winter tires next year, and even that is not a guarantee of anything. I cannot afford these crashes.

I'm sorry to hear that! Always stings when it turns out that way.

This is why I flatly refused to move to Rochester, NY when she asked, and took on a new career when she started insisting. Well, that's not all of why, but ya know...

So sorry this happened to you. My 'auto mishap' last October with my '07 Yaris was the first one that was all my fault in 35 years and only the second one all my fault ever. In February of 2014 I got rear ended (all the other person's fault), and that was my first accident at all in 14+ years. We're in the same boat re rates will increase upon next renewal.

Good for you. After living in California and Tyler, I couldn't imagine that you would enjoy the weather (and other things) in Rochester.

Aw man, you lived in Tyler too?!

I'd never have believed it, but there are definitely distinct neighborhoods here.

Wifey lived in Rochester for a while, she's from Los Abgeles and came here via Phoenix. She likes it there. Makes me question her...

No. My bad . After rereading my post, I can now see how you easily would have come to that conclusion. I should have written - "Remembering that you're from California and live in Tyler,..." or something similar.

I really enjoyed driving through the centrally located Brick Streets Neighborhood

This is now a thread about people who lived in East Texas with wives from upstate NY. 903 representing! (Although that area code was the first thing I lost after moving to Dallas)

Went by the accident scene today ... it is 2 blocks from my residence, and stopped with no problems.

Made sure there was no one in front of me this time.

But I did notice that it was still very icy ..

I find that often people in automatic cars sit and spin their tires like mad to try to get into traffic and it just slicks up the road. Intersections too are bad for the same reason.

They just need to learn how to drive ... morons.

I noticed it last night ... it looked icy, with a distinct shine to it. But yesterday you could not tell it was icy at all. Just my luck.

I have accident forgiveness .. so my insurance will not go up, this time. But it will still likely cost me $500 in repair bills.

My last encounter with another car taught me a few things that have kept me ticket, record and accident free for more than a decade now:

1) there will always be a better driver than me
2) with every one good driver there are about 10 irresponsible, dangerous drivers I have to share the road with
3) most importantly: if I get in an accident, regardless whose fault it is, I NEVER win.

Basically those 3 lessons result in me driving like a paranoid cynic.

Totally number 3 ... I hate accidents, no matter who is at fault.

The only good thing, I have an in to get my car fixed at where my brother in law works. That will allow me to get my car fixed on the cheap.

I just have to deal with the insurance issue tomorrow .. and hope it is not too bad.

Nice!

Agreed...it's the multitude of idiots out there you really have to worry about.

. I agree with all three. The last two keep me driving with pretty much the same mindset you have.

Not to kick you while you are down, but I will never ever understand how someone that lives in a 4 season environment doesn't have at least M&S tires for incliment months. An auto is a big investment and it deserves your respect as well as other drivers on the road. I hopw that others that read about ypur plight thay don't run winters when/where they should pay heed.

Mind what you say, nook, I'm sure we've all fallen under category 2: "others" in some shameful moments of our driving lives. You have to admit, driving idiocy is quite contagious if you aren't careful.

Yeah, but a HUGE percentage of those moments, IMO, will likely come when one is young....especially when it concerns guys. Women....a different story. In my experience, women are either skilled drivers or they aren't. Not as tied to age, ego, 'there is a time and place', or maturity as it is with guys.
