What about the Yaris I a?

Please tell me what you know about score? My son-in-law just bought one. Is it a joint venture with Mazda? Does it have a Maza transmission? Is it the 1.5 L Yaris engine? It was pretty expensive like $300 a month for sixty Months no interest.

That is unfortunate. What made Toyota decide to stop making their own Yaris?

I’m reading the engine is a 1.5 L 106 hp that sounds to me like The Toyota Engine that’s always been in the Yaris. I hope so because Mazda transmissions that are automatics are not known to be reliable

Well I can see A trip to the dealer is an order today to check this car out!

Holy crap it really is a Mazda! A quick trip to you tube o save me a trip to the dealer. This is a big mistake and black mark against Toyota for pulling this crap! When you pay for a Toyota you expect to get a Toyota not a Mazda. Mazda automatic transmission suck In the long run.

I really have to keep my mouth shut and not tell my daughter and her husband about this.

Does Toyota still sell a real Yaris?

Of course I’ve heard of the iA but I had no idea it was a Mazda, at least not 95% Mazda. I always assumed it was mostly a Toyota. I am shocked Toyota would rebadge A car like that given their reputation for quality. I’m also alarmed no one seems to want to build a small car anymore.

I am shocked, absolutely shocked.. Toyota not producing their own cars!

I expect only as much, Toyota itself is a strong center for cars from Japanland, their work has expanded to BMW, Fuji Heavy, Mistubishi, and Mazda, I wouldn't be surprised if they were in talks with GM again too.

I just wish they'd make a damn good I4 again.. the last great i4 was the 22Re, which was bullet proof, since then things have been kinda eh... even the 2jz which is considered godly is still a cast iron boat anchor to me. Compared to little power houses like Mazda's skyactiv and ford's integrated turbo units toyota is lacking here

Hell the GRMN supercharged car is just a 2zr with an eaton m62 blower, its nothing but recycled parts ( albiet a good combo!) its nothing new.

We had a mazda2, before Mazda discontinued the 2 hatch. And it was darn reliable, except for the expensive oil pans.

actually the real yaris if you wanna get technical is a aygo. the yaris was released in 1999. to the UK and japan and europe first. india yarises are not real yaries. european style and jdm yarises are real "yarises"

From what I understand, here in the States, the hatchback is still a "real" Yaris.

The iA has been re-badged as the Yaris sedan, similarly to how the Scion iM became the new Corolla hatchback (except at least the Scion was still Toyota and not a Mazda at heart).

Sticky?

Is there any chance of making a sticky for people wanting to know about the Yaris I a? I mean warning them that this is not a Yaris but a Mazda?

Most auto reviewers have fawned over the iA/Mazda2, as do most (poorly informed) auto buyers, despite the fact that both the automatic and manual Mazda iA transmission (& mechanicals in general) have already proven spotty on quality & reliability,- often needing replacement/repair while still under factory warranty. The 'modern' Mazda Skyactiv GDI engine in the iA (like most other pure direct-injection engine designs) is also prone to carbon deposits & will require expensive cleanings/maint. regularly to maintain form. It won't likely age well as a result. Newer tech, extra added tech-bloat in general, or even more gears in your transmission isn't always a better thing.

Thanks to giving the iA the Yaris name, many consumer metrics that measure reliability/quality in cars are already dragging down the rankings of the 'Yaris' model name, since they don't differentiate between the iA/Mazda2 Yaris & the real Yaris hatchback. The Yaris hatch already has enough (mostly ignorant) hurdles in the U.S. market to overcome, without appearing lower quality compared to other Toyota's, thanks to the iA/Mazda2 version Yaris dragging down its rankings.

It's a shame really, because the new 2019 XLE trim Yaris Sedan (iA/Mazda2) would be a decently cool little subcompact if it was a more-reliable, better-quality, better-designed car like the regular Yaris hatch. They added some nice, needed features/accessories (to the new XLE trim) for the 2019 mid-cycle refresh.
