Radiator Fan

Hi Guys, happy Xmas to all

Recently the radiator fan keeps cutting in when driving at low speeds, <10mph or in traffic. Also the blue engine temp light tends to go off after about half a mile, is this normal or cause for concern?

Cheers

The radiator fan turns on automatically when the coolant temperature reaches a certain point. That will happen more often when the car is moving slow or sitting still in traffic.

If under the same circumstances it seems to be doing it more than it used to, it is possible that coolant temperature sensor is starting to fail, or that your thermostat is stuck open.

It seems to be doing it more frequently than it used to which just made me wonder if something was on its way out, may be the temp sensor then.

If you can get your hands on a scan tool that can read the OBD data, you can actually watch the coolant temp to see if the numbers from the sensor make sense.
