How to repel rats/rodents from the engine bay esp on winter

2 years ago my family was out of the country for winter vacation and i got a nasty surprise when i returned back to drive my yaris, found out the wiper fluid hose and other parts were literally munched by rats. Probably they wanted something warm and the engine bay was a perfect place for them.

I know it was Master Splinter because there were several rubber parts also partially chomped including the engine plastic top cover and also the engine motor hydraulic mount was also leaking oil and having a tear...

Now, it is winter time again and this morning i found a lot of debris or left-over food and rat litter on top of my engine... I just do not want them to wreck havoc esp on the electronic cables...

I would like to have your tips on the best thing to do based on your experience.

I have read some articles related to this like using Rataway Fragrance spray https://www.rataway.com/ or this battery operated ultrasonic repellant https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LCKBGY8/?tag=dwym-20 but i want to know what is the best action to prevent it from happening again.

Oh, man, I wish I had some advice for you but being from a suburban area of southern California, it's not something we have to deal with. Good luck!

This makes me crazy, i double checked if there are bitten wires but i don't see any...

Time to get that rat traps today!
