Phone holder mount
Mainly done as
1) a proof of concept, and 2) an excuse to try out expnading foam :) My 2013 Yaris has a weird, eye-shaped pocket at the top outside corner of the dash, so I initially removed it and replaced it with a shaped piece of plywood, which I bolted the phone holder to. Then I realised I'd probably be regularly swapping cars with my elderly dad (to share the kms between our identical Yarii), so I needed something easy to swap from car to car. So, plastic bag inside the pocket, sit bolt in position in the pocket, add expanding foam. See pics for result. I found that expanding foam needs moisture + air to set, so the foam in the bottom of the bag stayed liquid until I started peeling the bag back, and squirted it with water. The foam also didn't expand as smoothly, or strongly as I'd thought, so next effort will be layer upon layer upon layer, rather than hoping for one fill. Anyway, I now have a phone holder I can switch simply from Yaris to Yaris. Cheers, Andrew |
