recent yaris activity.
Been giving my Yaris love as it has become my daily driver. Last night I did 30,000 mile oil change, and cleaned the engine. Today I washed it inside and out, de-badged the back (I <3 it). I ordered an Afe air filter 30-10150. Now I'm wondering if I should drill some big holes in the bottom of my airbox and ripout the charcoal filter. I don't want to hurt mpg but I would like more airflow, for sound and any power i will get. I removed the snorkle thing when we bought it, but otherwise it is stock. I'm also going to go buy the 12$ wonder muffler tip from walmart. I actually had one once but the inside rusted out and fell apart or something. So the question is drill 2 big bottom holes in the box and ripout the charcoal filter? or Not?
Also for completeness, tinted windows, mudguards, side moldings, and spoiler. I have these. |

Well I did it. I cut a square area about 4" in diameter next to the bottom bolt, and then drilled a 5/8 hole next to the other bottom bolt. Has a nice sound to it. Can't wait to ditch the stock filter when my AFE gets here. I didn't mess with the charcoal thingy, figured I would wait for feedback.

I'm pretty sure a few peeps have done something similar to their airbox, don't know what impact is has had though.
Let us know your observations, and post some pics!

Well it's louder. The engine definitely has more air available to it before the filter. Still haven't gotten my afe filter. I did buy that walmart exhaust tip. It does make a deeper sound out of the exhaust. I solemnly swear to my statements above and no butt dynoing or sticker go faster has occurred. lol. I will take a pic when I put the filter in.

Dude, when I feel like making noise: I undo the top half of my air box, and tape the filter to it. Then I leave it hanging.

Put the afe filter in today. I am really impressed with it. It sounds great. I snapped a pic and I will post it when I get home. Now I'm starting to think about an exhaust or lowering springs and rear sway bar. But as it is I am about to buy a Subaru WRX as a third car which i will drive in the winter. So we will see ... But the AFE air filter 30-10150 gets a thumbs up from me.
