adding power without any cost
i talk to a toyota tech here in qc and he told me we could had power .. here is how and i want to know if its true or b*llshit..
he told me to change the knock sensor of place and and fix it into a a/c compressor hole.. by changing it place, that exploits your advance of electronic fire.. so if someone heard about it.. |

Sounds like BS to me. A knock sensor measures just that, knock, not engine timing. Adjusting timing can net gains on older engines, but, our engines have variable valve timing (VVTi). I don't believe it's adjustable. I'm not 100% sure, but I CAN tell you the knock sensor and A/C compressor hole (If that even exists???) have nothing to do with timing.

since we have variable valve timing, it is always adjusting

only free performance mod I can thinnk of is to cut up holes in your stock intake filter box.
Although... the knock sensor's job is to change the timing to a "safe mode" if it feels the engine knocking. I guess putting it somewhere where it could not feel and knocking at all may run the ignition timing is a higher performance mode all of the time, but the risk of damage to your engine is pretty high if anything screws up!

You guys are getting ignition timing and valve timing confused. VVT-i is VALVE timing.
The knock sensor is there to retard IGNITION timing if it senses knock. You don't want to be moving the sensor around. That is about the stupidest thing you could do. Theoretically, yes the guy is right, but if there is no knock, then you will run the maximum ignition advance anyway, so moving the sensor is pointless. If you do knock, the sensor sees it and pulls the ignition timing back to protect the motor. If you move the sensor, then you keep knocking, and start eating away at your pistions. But you gained 2 HP while you did it. Hooray for dumb. |

Not sure if I would relocate it off the engine, but in my 2003 Sentra SE-R Spec V, the knock sensor relocate was one of the first things you always did. Primarily because the sensor was too sensitive. Relocation it further back on the engine kept it functional so you didn't nuke your engine, but it also kept it from pulling timing from something like intake noise. Just throwing in a bit of info from another car.
