Question Swapping out instrument clusters

Hey all.

I am not too keen on my stock gauge clusters in my Vitz. The simple orange color one is a bit too plain for my liking. I am sourcing a cluster from a european yaris that has bit more colors in it.

Some people told me that they wont work unless they are "coded" to your immobilizer. They said that it can be easily done at the dealer.

Now does this coding have something to do with the mileage or does it mean that if i just plug it straight to my car, it wont even work ? I don't mind wrong mileage for the short term.

Any ideas?

Regards.

The cluster is not coded for the immobilizer. Just the Smart Key ECU and the ECM are.
