Question What does this bulb do in the headlight?? (DRL Problems?, *SOLVED* Thank you!*)

What in the world does this bulb do? I replaced both of them. Yet, Nothing I do makes them turn on... WTF are they for?? TOTALLY confused...
The main bulb turns on for the DRL, gets a bit brighter when I turn the actual lights on and even brighter when I put on the high beams.

This light NEVER turns on...

From my experiments, they are the "parking" lights. IIRC, when you turn the light switch to the first stop, they are the only lights that go on at the front.

Where did you get the bulbs? One of mine burned out and (I'll admit) I am a little lazy to find the part number and a vendor (available at autoparts store?)...

Got them at Pepboys, don't recall the part number off hand.

Mine don't light up... ever, not even at the first click which should be the DRL's.... I get
DRL - Main bulb
Driving - Main bulb
High - Main bulb

On both sides, freshly replaced. I'm going to go turn them around to see if that makes a difference like if they "burn out" the DRL defaults to the main bulb.

Ok, so I went and checked them, no way they could be in the wrong way given the socket, looks like a 194 wedge bulb. Everything is connected proper, yet, they do not light up as DRLs, the main bulbs do.

Also, at first click, the rear lights do come on, just not the fronts...

Even with the light selector "off" when the DRLs are supposed to come on, the main headlights do, not these little guys.

Ok, so this page
CarCareKiosk says the main bulb on the 07-2011 Yaris **IS** the DRL.

So now I'm properly confused as to what that little bulb is and why it's not turning on.

Try this.. Turn off car, pull the handbrake, turn lights to first click.

Report back...

The yellow bulbs on the sides of the assembly are on (as are the rears) that is all.

How odd.

What year is your Yaris? I have a 2011 but there is no DRL or DRL setting on the headlight switch on mine. Plus, IIRC, the amber light does NOT go on (I will have to check this to be sure, tonight after work, though) when I turn the light switch to the first click.

Are you the original owner? Maybe the previous owner rewired the lights?

It's a 2008. It just came back from the shop after it was backed into (front end) could they have put the wrong lights in the wrong holes? Is that even possible?

Every bulb in both housings is brand new (less than 2 weeks old)
So it's not burnt out bulbs.

Checked the fuses #13 (a 7.5) in the engine bay and #15 (a 25 amp) under the dash and both were good to go.

Does anyone have a photo of what this SHOULD look like and the situation in which they light? When I disengage the e-brake the DRL's (main bulb) lights up even with the selector in the off position. No configuration or process of parking, pull the e-brake, flashers, signals, off, first position, on, high... nothing has illuminated these bulbs.

I checked the bulbs as well, not just assuming that since they were recently installed that this meant they were ok, the bulbs are both fine.

A bit flabbergasted at this point... Unless there is another fuse I've missed. But if normal operation of the Parking lights illuminates the forward facing bulbs that presently are not lighting up, the side facing that light up the yellow reflectors and the rear reds... and all are working except the 2 forward facing, would that point to a fuse?

But if both fuses and both bulbs are fine? I checked, today.
Is there a different fuse that runs just those forward facing lights? Can you provide me with the fuse number/location?
