Cupholder Mayhem

This is frustrating...

A while ago, I took a hard turn while a jar of peanut butter was placed on the center gauge shelf. The jar flew and hit the driver side cupholder. This somehow disabled the mechanism by which the cupholder taps and pops/glides open, it now just stays ajar... very sad

Then recently, I tried to close the passenger cupholder, only to find that it was jammed open, and would not close all the way.

Now I have two busted cupholders!

Help! Does anyone know how to take the things apart? It's all hard plastic, and I dont see any screws.

If you look closely it is held in by pastic pins that ride in grooves. Just sqeeze the plastic sides allowing one or both pins to come free from the groove and withdraw it out. Yea it is a pain but they will come out.

That's sig line material right there.

I think I found your problem, the gauge cluster isn't a shelf.
I set a full cup of coffee there once when backing out of the driveway and then spent the next hour pulling the dash covers off to dry things out.

Holy monkey balls.. I can see this happening to me one day. It looks sooo tempting to use as a shelf though..

Is there any way to build a dedicated peanut butter holder?
Now that someone has broken the ice, I think we can all admit that
this is an issue with the Yaris.

Maybe this should be added to the "The Yaris Sucks" thread since it's obviously a design flaw with the vehicle. How in the world the engineers at Toyota missed this one is beyond me.

I'm always trying to find a place to put my peanut butter. The question now is creamy or crunchy?

so anyway, back to the OP there is the plastic nubs that sit in the grooves however there are also springs in there. It is possible that the springs have come unhooked. Word of advice...if you remove the cupholders be very careful do to those springs because they are kind of small and also it is easy to scratch the plastic...speaking from experience when I removed mine to have them CF wrapped.

Your Yaris didn't come with a peanut butter holder? That's strange, all i have are peanut butter holders...I'd kill for a cup holder.

Now I'm feeling the need to investigate the best location to safely transport a jar of peanut butter. Just one question, are we talking the 12oz, 18oz, 28oz, or the 40oz jar... or the 4 lb jug?

Damn it,I got beer on my key board... through my nose.

I think there is a special mounting bracket to hold that where the spare tire goes.
