Could you imagine the cost on replacing a battery pack? Cool concept, but I think electric cars still have a ways to come. More Info & Video <- Clicky

According to the Jalopnik link Tesla has on their blog, it's gonna cost $100k. A sedan is already in the works, which is estimated to cost $50k.
I dunno, I think the time is right for this. Yes, the battery replacement will be expensive, but the battery prices continue to drop (you shouldn't need any for 5-8 years), and it's not like it's some exotic battery pack, just standard Lithium ions that go in a laptop (only there's a few more... like over 6100 of 'em). Range has always been the biggest drawback, and now they've practically got that one licked. Most people don't come anywhere close to 250 miles in one day. I could go almost 5 days on one charge. That alone will increase the battery life, since it won't be constantly cycled. If you can afford a $100k car, the cost of replacement batteries is the least of your concern. I just like the fact that it thumbs its nose at Detroit, particularly GM and their EV1 disaster. Can you imagine what it feels like to accelerate that fast in silence? That's gotta' be surreal.... ~YR

apparently gm had an electric car in the '90's that they leased to about 800 people in california,
reports were that it was an amazing, very functional, very powerful car. so what did gm do? they didn't renew the leases and they canned the project. does anyone know the name of this car, or have any experience with it? |

I had heard something about that car from the 90s but I am not sure what it was called. There was a motorcycle too that was equivalent to a 750cc gasoline engine that a company had that could go 220 miles a charge with a top end of 95mph and could go zero to 60 in almost the same fashion as a gas 750.

dude that GM was a plug in vehicle. I'm still waiting for the Smart EV to get more miles to the charge. Right now it only get 75miles to the charge and 70mph at top. Not worth it unless you absolutely don't leave town. or far from home.
