Rear brake (drum) self adjuster question

When I was disassembling the rear brakes I noticed the self-adjuster has a lever that rides on a notched cam on the adjuster. The lever was up high on the cam (back side). When I was reassembling this part it was difficult to get it located at this exact position during assembly. The lever seems to be in contact with the cam but it is lower on the back side of the cam. Should I try to set it higher on the cam? I have a new drum on order and will open it back up when the drum arrives. If it is not in the position that it was prior to disassembly then I assume I should try to get up to the position correct? I had to adjust the self-adjuster almost all the way in to get the drum on. I hope this all makes sense, thanks.

I changes the rear shoes on one of mine recently and had the same issue. I could not get it to sit in the original position due to some tiny differences with the replacement shoes.

huh. i'm not understanding the problem. is the holding lever in the gear adjuster?
what do you mean by "setting it higher on the cam?" it should just sit in one spot

Thanks CTScott, I feel better now! I will just manually adjust as needed if things don't work out.
SirDigby,
Yes this is the holding lever on the gear adjuster. The location I noted before disassembly had the lever at say 11 o'clock on the adjuster just below the top of the gear. When I reassembled it it was at about 9:00 o'clock on the adjuster and did not want to stay up higher if I tried to put it there. Make any sense?
