Who's using Motul? I did some quick research and thought it was something specifically for drag cars... But then others were saying it is the only TRUE synthetic?

Is my Amsoil a true sythetic?

Check the Amsoil site (I wouldnt ask here and risk 3rd party hand-me-down info)But, how's that amsoil 5W-20 working out? Trying to figure if it makes the engine noisy when fully warmed or if it doesnt like to rev above 4-6 grand without sounding like it would grenade. Your amsoil should be real synth blend - as is redline and some other garage-made specialty stuff. Some guys use the Produit Du Frances Motul 300v but i am haviing no real good luck with the correct Motul 5w-30 Eco-nergy. but Eco-nergy is a grp iv PAO synth and I like only group iv-v blends or the full on group-v polyol Diester jet engine crap that has a pour point of -60F. I don't have the inclination anymore to use the next step up E-Tech (ester blend) motul - Ill just slum it next on some Valvoline fake synth or Penzoil fake synth and join the rest of the world I suppose . - the bro

ok my post got kicked out but here it is..

sorry guys i know theres alot of mobil1 fans in here but based on my tracking mpg , based on same temperature weather, same driving habits..i just notice big difference switching to amsoil...what brought me to amsoil is the friction issue with mobil1...google guys.

here my track record.

toyota conventional oil 5w-30 averaging 580km / 36liters summer

mobil1 5w-30 averaging 555/ 36 liters summer as well
mobil1 5w-30 ave 495km /36 liters winter

amsoil 5w-30 havent done the tank yet but noticed increase on half a tank by atleast 25-30kms .. this should give me an average of about 540 km on a 36 liters for winter.. we shall see..

im not advertising guys so easy on the comments..this is just my track record shows. surprise amsoil is not the the lineup for me to vote..

I'm using Motul 300V 5W-30 (di-ester base), and I love it. Engine revs fine all the way to redline at the track, and I'm getting 37-39 mpg in the street. It's a little pricy and difficult to find, but IMO its the best stuff out there.

I don't use synthetic because A) it is very expensive and B) it doesn't really offer any advantages unless you are really revving your engine or have a high performance engine. dont fall for the hype.

Check out Motul BMW specific LL-01 5w-30 ester based. Should be great for you hot shoe guys who dont want to spring for the 300V plus it should be good for 7500-9000miles OCI easy with maybe 1 filter changeout. It's a bit thicker of a 30wt compared to the eco-nergy 8100 5w-30 that I found is pretty thin and you cant wail on it when you want to.

I use Mobil 5W-20, and it increased my MPG by at least 4 if not more. The engine also starts a lot easier now then when I had the conventional toyota oil in it. Anyone know what oil the one user on here that has over 200000 miles uses?:

Be good to know that but a sample of -1- is not statistically significant. Plus HW driving at 3000rpm is Easy on the motor. My engine got too noisy on the thin oil, ANd I'm talking thin 30wt. I cant risk the 20 you motor may be diff - Tight like Wirgina =o <----

ok... So here's the million dollar question....

Do all the oils sold in the US under "synthetic" that are actually these API group 3 oils.... do they protect engines any better than the normal oil that we would buy for a fraction of the price.

Should i go with a "normal" oil that costs me $2.xx - $3.xx a quart versus a castrol/penzoil/whatever for $6.xx a quart?

I've been under the belief that the $6.00/qt oils do in fact last longer, and have better cleaning/filtering properties.... is this not true?

I don't really care if my oil is a "true" synthetic or not.. I just care if the extra few dollars I spend actually nets ANY advantage/protection.
