cold auto trans shifting - Toyota Yaris Forums

When starting off cold the trans won't shift at usual speed, but at very high engine revs. Once warmed up it shifts at usual engine speeds. Any thought?

I think this is normal. My 2007 stays in second gear for 2 or 3 blocks then in 3 for about 1/2 km. I think it is to do with warming up the engine quickly to reduce emissions.

they are designed to not go into OD until about 20 seconds after cool light goes out. Its an effort to get the engine into normal operating temp.

Do a search on here for "4th gear prohibition" and you will see that it is an intended mode of operation (which can be bypassed). When it is allowed is determined by the temp of both the coolant and the AT Fluid.

Car wont shift to 3rd gear below 42c coolant temperature and wont shift to 4th below 55c reading on the scangauge 2 that is also when the cool light turns off 55c they are made loke that
