Yaris Automatic Transmission squeal from second to third gear.

Hi All

First post. Be nice to the newbie lol

2007 four door yaris automatic. 340 000 km. Transmission fluid has never been changed, just topped up.

When driving normal, i mean like a grampy, just regular shifting with no issue.

When hitting the gas hard it shifts normal from first to second and then it makes a loud squeal from second to third or third to four. Sounds likes bad bearings in the alternator. It hard to describe.

The noise has been there for the past 50 000 km.

There is no transmission slippage.

Thanks in advance.

Alan

Toyota Canada recommended service on transmission is flush and fill every 100,000 kms. You are due!

As for the squeal, hard to say. A bearing issue would not manifest itself in that manner. It would be an ever present noise. Most common culprit of a "squeal" is the serpentine belt. Again, it is an odd time for a belt squeal to manifest itself but I would look to it first. Had it ever been changed? It not, it is due. If yes, and within the past few years, then it may just need a tension adjustment.

Thanks for the reply. I have changed the belt a few times. Usually once a year.

I was trying to describe what the noise sounds like.

It's weird that in the US, there's no firm recommendation for when the ATF should be changed. It's basically supposed to be monitored every 30,000 miles and changed as needed. Weird that in Canada, there's an actual recommended service interval for a flush and fill. Wonder why there's a difference.
