lower rod ratio

has anyone ever lowered compression by lowering rod ratio? i was noticing the long stroke the 1nz has, and if i lowered the stroke and increased the piston width, i was thinking it would move the torque curve out 500-1000 and add 1000-2000 on the top end, (maybe more) where the turbocharger is producing higher boost.
i have not done any research into what rod lengths are available/ commonly used, it was just a thought i had all day yesterday.
