445 km before the last bar starts blinkin...? winter!

445 km before the last bar starts blinking for winter driving seems a little low what am i missing.

1 drives consevatively
2 switch gears at 2k rpm
3 downshift to stop "fuel cutoff"
4 2 minutes warm up on this cold weather condition

*
only slight diffence is i drive city more than highway at this point..
80% city 20% hwy

So, how old are your filters for your air, fuel and oil?
Also how old are your sparkers and their drivers?
What's your tire pressure?
Is your tire size upgraded from stock?

Also on winter tires I notice an increase in fuel consumption.

that's 8.7L/100km if you put 39L of gas at this point. That's my average when it's really cold in the winter.. with mostly city driving.

You are currently experiencing one of the longest, coldest cold snaps in our area in several years. COLD = more gas consumed regardless of how warm your engine is.

happens here too.. I don't think our cars were designed to work in these extreme temperatures. If it was a bad bearing, then you would hear it clucking..

I believe the gas companies use a winter formulation in their gas, also if you are running snow tires, and the cold all conspire to give less than optimal gas mileage.

I usually get about 490 - 510 kms just before the last bar starts blinking. It then fills up 38.XX liters. I never down shift.

Could the cold, engine needs a service, tires, tire pressure, city driving plays huge role as well.

mileage

We also have Prius and it's mileage starts sucking in the cold. Even windy days effect the Prius.

I rarely get 450km from 40L in the Echo this winter, but I do drive hard and have a shorter final drive :)

my 2 last fill-ups (back in december) are 8.58L/100km and 9.87L/100km.
I did 438km with 37.576L of gas and 366km with 36.109L of gas respectively.

Know nothing about my January driving, as i have been driving the Jetta 2.5L and that shit did 12L/100km with my mostly city driving.
