Does Toyota put loctite red on the rear strut bolts?? - Toyota Yaris Forums

Hey all,
was installing my tein springs..the front was cake, the rear has been a nightmare, in fact broke two craftsman socket wrenches trying to remove the rear lower strut bolts! My 08 was easy to remove, these seem like they are seized or they have loctite red on them anyone else experience this? I have a 15" 1/2 breaker bar with 14mm socket that won't fit where I need it to thanks to the rear drum assembly

I swapped suspensions on an 08 and 2010 yaris, along with an 09 xd and the rear bolts came off like nothing..maybe jack up the drum so there's less stress on the bolt? Possibly loosen up the bolt before jacking the rear end, assuming you're still at the oem 4x4 height.

Just the opposite. Installing springs on the rear was far easier. Had no issue with the bolts. Sure your perspective isn't off and you've actually been trying to tighten them? Never hurts to ask.

Put a torch to the nut. A little heat can go a long way.

I don't understand why you can't get your breaker bar & socket to clear the drum.

Personally, my dad instructed me on this when I was about 3 years old.

got the bolt off! Sprayed it with Liquid Wrench, waited 10 minutes and voila!

Unless your working on british cars the lugnuts on left side are removed turning left and right side are removed turning right.

Had the same Problem before . Lucky you can take them out ... On my case I had to bring the car to a local shop and they need to cut them with an air saw ... 10 minutes and $300 later ... They put the new struts in .

Tried to argue with the shop " why I have to pay $300 for a 10 mins job ??" they said theyre just following the labor manual on those thing.... I was like F yu guys ... You just lost a returning customer ..

OP -for future reference, always try to use an alloy socket. they are far stronger that that "stainless steal" looking crap. almost all impact tool sets come with alloy sockets. i learned the hard way also when removing the torx bolts holding down my back seat.
