does anyone know where the connector is on the Yaris?

Edge of the lower left dash, right next to the lever for popping the hood.

If all you are looking to do is occasionally read a code and reset the MIL, then the cheapo units like this are fine.

Some of the cheapos will have software to download on your home PC to help with tracing down the problem. Might think about a decent DVOM also.

ok i just recently found out what a ODB2 Reader was , lol , whats a Dvom?
My interest is mainly curiosity, i like to have a very hands on experiance with my car

If you're hands on, then you might consider a digital multimeter (DVOM)
Nice to have handy when checking codes. Like I said before, some code readers (not expensive, around $100.00) come with software (tech link) that you download to your home PC to help once you know the code. Or you can register at OBDfix.com ...sites like that help you to diagnose the problem once you have a code and know where to begin. Better to test than to just start swapping parts that pertain to the certain code(s)

I keep one of these in the glove box of each car, one under the seat of my tractor, and one in my travel bag. Radioshack used to sell them for $12.

There is a nice intro to using a multimeter to troubleshoot automotive wiring and sensors in the beginning of the electrical wiring diagrams (EWD's) section of the service manual (which is posted as a sticky in the DIY section).

If you have a labtop with bluetooth capability i have a bluetooth obd2 reader for sale. You can plug it into your car and read live data on your labtop calculate horsepower and print all the info. Has ability to clear codes pretty much what any generic scanner could do. Runs off the power of your obd2 port so no needed wires or cables. You can leave it plugged in all the time if you like. I am sure you could use it like a scangauge. Depends on what software you use. There are plenty of free ones and ones you pay for.

Id ask 90 bucks for it.

no bluetooth on the laptop but i do have a bluetooth dongle Motorola
its tempting dude let me talk to my cousin he might be interested

I have the scan gauge too in my Yaris. It was one of the first things I got after buying the car. I leave it plugged all the time and leave in in GAUGE mode. It always dislpays the following data for me: water temp, ignition timing, voltage and throttle position.

I make sure to keep driving below 40% TPS, keep the water temps as cool as possible, and check differences in fuel quality by checking the ignition advance too. The OE ignition system is crazy! It sometimes advances ignition timing by as much as 35 degrees!
