Heater fuse keeps blowing, interior fan is dead.

You heard it...I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris and for the longest time only the number four setting on the fan switch would work...now nothing works on the fan switch and the fuse under the hood keeps blowing any help? I removed the interior fan, it is unobstructed and spins just fine. Missing ground?

On other vehicles I've had, whenever I lost lower fan speeds it meant that the rheostat was on its way out. Eventually all fan speeds get lost. Myth (maybe) has it that if the cabin air filter is clogged, the rheostat gets hot leading to it systematically failing at various resistance levels. Never had blown fuses though.

Where is that rheostat located? In the fan selector button?

Did you hook the fan up to 12v and see if it works?

It should be screwed in where it plugs in I'd say and is more than likely the problem.

My terminology may have been incorrect, or the part may also be known as a resistor.

Here is the part that may be suspect http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...698&cc=1441505

Not a Yaris blower motor, but this Tacoma pic does show where you can find the resistor. It is by the motor assembly and hence the belief that if your filter is clogged, you are not getting enough freely moving air to keep the resistor cool.

with this part there is no resistor or access to some thing like that. I feel that there is a ground loose somewhere in the switch the air filter is clean

You are correct though a receipt went into the fan area before I had a cabin filter and killed my first three speeds. Thank you again for all of your help on this now where is that resistor?

Back side of blower motor. Follow the blue wire.

Jinxed myself with this thread. Resistor went out on my other car yesterday. Lost all blower speeds other than high.
