MAF check engine light

Long story short - had a cold air intake on my 08 yaris for 4 years. Had to restart the battery when I first installed it and it had no issue relearning. Had an oil change 3 weeks ago and had the mechanic put on a new filter while it was lifted. He didnt put it on all the way and it fell off, but I caught it after a few miles. Put it on correctly, cleaned the MAF, and reset the computer. Now the MAF is throwing a check engine light randomly but will turn off after the car being off for a while. It's done this 3 times. It always trips while on the highway going up hill. Should I get a new sensor? Any idea what could be causing this?

Make sure the MAF is seated correctly and you haven't damaged the o-ring.

By o-ring do you mean essentially a gasket between the sensor and intake?

I should note that the idle and gas mileage haven't changed and I can't hear any interruptions in the engine noise, even when the light trips.

What is the code? There's more then one MAF related check engine code. MAF sensor's (especially OE quality ones) can get quite pricey so I wouldn't go buying a new one unless you're certain it's the problem.

Did you clean the MAF with proper MAF cleaner spray?

I did clean it with proper MAF cleaner. The exact code is P0101. How would I know if it wasn't seated properly? It seemed to reinstall after the cleaning like normal.

I reset the computer, really cleaned the MAF again and let sit for a longer time to dry, and let it idle for a good 10 minutes after the reset. So far no check engine light, will keep posted.

I got a rebuild maf From Napa about eight years ago for $80 for my sons 2000 and echo. Same part on the Yaris. It still works so if you need a new one no biggie.
