2003 yaris MMT problems!! shuddering, rumbling feels like it wants to stall!!!

hey, this is my first post onto this site so hope i get a good response!

my mum has a 1.0 mmt vvti yaris, up till a week or so it was going fine, it has now started to shudder like its about to stall when you stop the car in "drive" and when you try to take off it just revs like its in neutral, the only way to stop it from doing it is to slip it into neutral just before you stop.

anyone had similar problems? i have to say i think this is a terrible gearbox option but we have three other yaris's in the family which are great, my sister has a 2003 1.0 manual vvti with 120k and still on its original timing belt, only thing to ever go wrong was a fuse!

thanks
