Air conditioning filter

I know it has been recently discused that you can put an airconditioning filter in the yaris. I asked my dealer about this and they want to charge my about 70 dollars for a housing they say I need before I get the filter. Is this nessesary? Or can I just buy a filter and put it in myself?

Oh boy, another honest dealer hard on the course of truth, justice and the ultimate sacrifice of customer service.

Pull the glove box out and the filter housing is plainly visible. I am shore one of the members has a picture of it for your convenience. If no one steps up I will try to get one posted today.

Open this link http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...ghlight=filter and go down to post #46. You can see the filter housing picture with the end cover off and a filter partially exposed. The only difference between this and mine is that my filter housing is white opaque and not black. I guess the Euro model uses different color in there molding of the part?

Is that the one that needs trimmed, or stock fit?

Can you take a few pics for Geelmeel of the installation?

i trimmed purolator C38188 ( $ 12 plus change) a little and it fits right in; no need of "housing/drawer" because purolator has a sturdy "frame" around it and it just slides in - been in my yaris for last 2 weeks - no prob.

Manual Info

I don't know how I missed this, but if your car comes equipped with the filter there should be a sticker located in glove box

That is a terrible thing to say! I will have you know that dealers have our best interests in mind at all time. They would never lie, cheat, steal, mislead, or abuse us at any point in the spirit of free market trade. Now, please excuse me as I am late for my electro shock therapy.

Does anyone know what car(s)the Purolator C38188 cabin air filter fits. I cannot locate anyone that carries Purolater near my house and I dont have the available time to order the part on the internet. If I know what car that air filter fits I might be able to locate another air filter that will fit from another manufacturer.

I didn't look hard enough, the parts america site had a link to list all cars that the filter fits. IN case anyone was wondering its the 00-05 ECHO, 03-06 SCION's, and the RAV4's.

Home made cabin/AC filter

My dealer wanted $5 for the tray in which the filter sits and $30 or so for the filter. I asked the service manager about cutting down a furnace filter and using tht and was told tht would work just fine. So, as suggested in this or another thread, I just bought a high quality furnace filter (3M) and cut it to size (7.5" x 8.5"), taped the 2 sides without cardboard and it fit right in with the need of the tray.
