2010 Yaris Liftback

55,000 -ish miles (bought in March 2011 with 6k)
* Front tires in '12
* Battery died yesterday (11-5-14). Was the original and build date for car is late '09, so it was about due to go bye-bye. I'd noticed that it didn't start with the usual enthusiasm these days, and yesterday POOF! Got the cheapie 26r @ Sears.
* Misc stuff: Rear brakes make a noise sometimes, right before car comes to a stop, but usually only when it's hot out, which is most days in SoCal. Heater/AC has that musty smell.

And that's it. Lots of little things I don't like about it, but most can be addressed (sound insulation project coming soon, rear sway bar, etc.)

Don't know how long I'll keep it, but if it's half as reliable as my '88 Festiva, I'll be happy.

2007 Sedan with power package

Olive Mist

160,*** miles ..I do a lot of driving

Water pump replaced..years ago. Only problem was a broken valve timing solenoid..and minor suspension problems cv boot..etc all fixed this year.

And break pedal feel is very mushy..is there a fix for this..maybe new rotors ? .. Even with new pads. I notice no difference in breaking feel.

Also need to replace shoes. As they always squeak and make noise.

My 26r from Sears lasted for 3 years (9-9-2009 to 9-9-2012) with somewhere between 85-90k miles driven during that period. On 9-9-2012, Sears was no longer offering the 26r in my area . I ended up getting a Wal-Mart 26r...and that only lasted 16 months and about 49k miles. We may be the only two members to ever go with the 26r. I hope you have the same good luck I feel I had (given the heat here) with my Sears 26r .

Replaced original battery a couple months ago.
New water pump 15k miles ago. Current one is making noise. Bearings are bad. Will replace with aftermarket this time.

Timing chain cover leak, fixed under warranty, still leaked, they said they forgot a solenoid, replaced under warranty, STILL LEAKS! no longer under warranty (I do not care enough to fix it, it drips on pig mats on garage and by the 5k mileage oil change it doesn't even have low oil) No other problems other than regular maintenance.

Water pump failure at 152k

Otherwise no problems.

Today I had the second oil change done on my 2014 Yaris at 6,676 miles (3,003 miles since first change). This time I took it to Brake Check (a Texas chain). I had Brake Check do the last two oil changes on my 2007 Yaris. They have a policy where you get every 4th oil change free. Before those changes, I asked if the 'counting' re those changes was specific to the customer or the car. I was told the customer, not the car. I dropped by about 3,000 miles ago to get the first oil change for my 2014. I was told I was too close to closing and they couldn't squeeze me in. I ended up going to Service First (mentioned on another thread).

Today, at Brake Check, I double checked this. It turns out the company policy (it is a Texas wide chain) has changed. The '4th free' is now car specific. Apparently quite a few people have a range of levels of cars that they own (with varying amounts they are willing to spend on upkeep), and too many people were paying for 3 basic changes on a cheap small car and then using the free one to get a synthetic change on a more expensive vehicle. They gave me over 1/3 off the first change today on my 2014 (because it is a first visit with that car with them). Their regular price is cheaper than Service First. I'll do two more changes with them, plus the free one, and then reexamine the situation. I'll do my next oil change, out of state (probably in Arizona), in a few weeks and then my next one after that at Brake Check when I get back to Texas. This particular Brake Check location did the wheel bearing replacement on my 2007 Yaris at 110,000 miles, and that work is still holding up 190,000 miles later. This location is under new (as in under 2 months) management (much improved ). The new manager told me that even if I had arrived 1 minute before closing for the first oil change for my 2014 (in December), they should have accepted my car and always should under such circumstances.

I just sold my 05 Echo 5 dr with 377,400 km on it and bought a new 2014 5 dr Yaris with 55 km on it.

The 05 was never any trouble. I replaced the clutch at 290,000 km myself. I do all my own maintenance. Hoping to get 300 K out of the new one too.

Welcome . Is your new 5-door Yaris an automatic or a manual? In the U.S., the 3rd Gen 5-door isn't available with a manual , unless you get an SE.

The 2014 is a manual. It has the convenience package on it with air, power windows and locks, and came with cruise (although I didn't ask for or pay for it - a happy accident).

Thanks for the welcome. I joined the forum hoping to learn more about the emission control system for the yaris. I've done some troubleshooting on other cars and am looking to gain some insight.

IMO, it is a shame your particular vehicle isn't available in the United States. I would have purchased one....prefer it to the SE re tighter turning circle, and a few other reasons. I wonder if Toyota doesn't offer a non-SE 5-door manual (the XP130) in the U.S. because of a perceived lack of demand. I purchased my 2014 in Florida in August of 2014, but the manufacturing date on the door jamb plate is January of 2014.

Just noticed your '14 is classic silver - mine too!

My '05 was the same or similar color. I figure it doesn't show the dirt as much
