Winter and Heater (A/C)

Hi,

has anybody noticed that when you have car with full load of passengers in winter, the heater doesnt blow warm air enough and the back windows get steam.

Or if you try first at the cabin, windshield is on steam.

(Hoping that summer will come soon)

tell your passengers to stop breathing... hehe.. Yeah, I live in a very humid place, and having just one extra person in the car makes it difficult for me.

Roll down the windows and let some of that fresh winter air in
That'll defog your windows real quick.

With the heat turned up, switch on the AC. This will de-humidify your environment while still providing heated air. Once all is clear, switch off the AC.

That's what the defroster does whenever it's turned on.

Are you using recycled air or letting the flow through mode with your defrosters on. I find mine steam up if I am set to recycle the interior air. I also like to have the driver window cracked open at least a quarter inch. Both help with reducing the fogging effect. Turning the AC also helps quickly, but then your fighting the heater.

I never switch to recycled air. Always fresh for me. Frankly, I don't recall having ever turned the knob to recycle. I see no point in it.

actually its not the same. the defroster only partly uses the ac feature. pressing the button will allow for 100% Ac compressor. also with the ac on it allows u to set the blow mode to face (which i find helps the back windows alot more)

Just me $0.02....or with the exchange only about $0.019

I see you are in Canada so it probably isn't an issue for you. When it is really hot in the summer I switch to the recycle mode for AC as it gets colder faster that way. Otherwise, I too prefer fresh air... unless fresh air is too hot to breathe.

I switch to Recycled air when I start to smell something foul IE a skunk or a smelly car in front of me it seems to keep the smell outside the car.

Doesn't the window fog up faster when you have it set to recycled air and defroster mode?

Yep it does, for best defrosting make sure you're sucking in fresh air.

In the winter I usually use recirculate for the first 5 minutes of driving, then switch to fresh air when the engine is a little warmer and the windows are just starting to fog up.

Technically recirculate (or blower fan turned off) should help the engine heat up quicker, because you're not pulling as much heat out of the coolant when you're heating up recirculated air, as opposed to much colder outside air, for example.

I keep it turned off for the first little bit till the engine's starting to warm up. Doesn't feel great to get in a cold car and just blow the cold air around.

has anyone actually found evidence of this? lol. i've seen it around here but is it actually true? i find in my car, untill the little green COLD light (which i am not a great fan of) turns off i willl not get much of any heat

EDIT: and would we also not get a little bit of a toaster like smell. all electric heaters let off some sort of smell for the first little while

I love seeing a yaris fully loaded with people, especially the hatchbacks. Speaking of such, I tried searching for it already but couldn't find anything.

So is there a thread with photo's of people squeezing into their yaris? I think it could be interesting and funny at the same time.
