rear exhaust heat shield

hi guys/gals wondering i got a rattle from the rear exhaust heat shield, is it safe to remove it or can I use some in between the exhaust and heat shield? tried bending it but it's pretty firm against the body as it is any ideas??
oh btw it's not a stock rear muffler.

The problem with not having a heat shield is when you're stationary. The heat rising from a hot muffler can damage the paint over time, not to mention heating up the inside of the car. Can't you fix the rattle without sticking something between your muffler and heat shield?

Do you have a picture of this heat shield? I just looked at mine and don't see anything b/w the exhaust and the underside of the bumper right above the exhaust.

Tried bending it but it's as far as it can go it only vibrates when the road gets a bit rough but still drives me nuts

Are you sure the muffler itself isn't rubbing it, causing the problem?

Yeah the muffler is hitting the heat shield, might try new rubber hangers
