fuel tanks leaks when full

hi people

please help how do i get this sorted out as the dealers keep fucking up, they replaced the fuel filter and i have been having problems ever since, the fuel tank only leaks when i full it up, it leaks from the somewhere on top as the fuel can be since runing down, it also smells like crazy when i fill up, and when the tank is on two bars, then i have to drive with the windows open,

please advise how to stop leak and smell

Sounds like the seal between the pump and tank (under the rear seat) is the problem.

thanks, now how do i get this problem fixed, the seat have some funny looking screws which i dont have a spanner for, and can i just buy the seal for the fuel filter or must i buy a another fuel filter just to be safe,

The gas tank top is a little tricky to tighten properly. Because of the super coarse threads, when you start to tighten it, it seems like it is cross threading. You can remove the rear seat to gain access to it and then tighten it the rest of the way. Toyota has a special spanner tool that fits in the grooves on the top of the tank, but I just used a plastic dead blow hammer and a piece of hardwood to tighten mine. Just don't use anything which can create sparks.

thanks a million, i dont know but my dad ask if i drove the car while the fuel tanks was open, like moving from one pump to another at the garage,or could it be leaking from the black pipe this could have damaged the seal, now i need to know how to remove the seats, i got some funny looking screws, will take a pic and load later today, also when i run it dry i sometimes hear tut noise coming from the back what could that be

To remove the seats you need an external torx socket, Size E10.

Looks like this:


The black pipe is easy to check from under the car. It just has a hose clamp that snugs it to the nipple on the tank.
