Finally fixed my stupid door lock actuator and for free!

So my door lock actuators on 3 of my doors no longer work, The drivers side failed and was replaced under warranty, then the passenger side and then the driver side again shortly after the passanger rear failed. I am not about to fork out 350 per door for just the part and Ive got sick and tired of having to use my key to open my door so today i bit the bullet and tore my door apart and dissected my door lock actuator to see if I could fix it.

I wish I took more pictures so I could compile a DIY After I was almost done I took a few pictures but I plan to do the rest of my doors since they are all broken and will do a step by step.

After opening apart the actuator you can see the motor. 2 wires connect it i poped them off to allow me to remove it. Looks like the tiny motors in the remote control cars when I was a kid I think it might be possible to find a replacement at a hobby store.

After removing the motor i popped the worm gear off and pried the metal cover to allow me to gain acesss to the innards. As you can see the contacts were black.

I completely removed the motor and cleaned it with 1000 grit sandpaper and electrical contact cleaner

After awile of cleaning you can see there is a big difference.

I put everything back together and WHALA my door locks and unlocks with the remote again! I cant wait to do the rest of the doors when I have time.

I had the same issue for an 06 Lexus GS300.
There is a large thread on Club Lexus.
Bought similar motors for the cap portion due to the carbon was worn in the cap.
I now see replacements motors on ebay.

Question, did this method work on your other 3 doors?

You would have to buy the entire lock actuator. Unless you can figure out the manufacturer of the motor, you would not be able to purchase it separately.

I can't tell from the picture... Can anyone tell me what the motor shaft looks like? Is it round, "D" shaped, square, or something else? I'm looking for some motor replacements and have a few options.

I Had to do this too! Sticky this thred!!

I replaced the motor inside the sealed unit (03 4 door sedan)

I couldn't get the cap off like you did- how did you do it?

And I had trouble getting the part that's on the shaft off on the first one-
I got lucky - I tried to glue the worm gear onto the new shaft with araldite but pulled the worm gear off too early, but it made a mould on the shaft! Perfect because the worm gear needs to have some play.
Still going strong (sounds a little bit diffrent thow)

The electric motor is common to many door locks and so can be found quite easily for maybe 10th the price of a second hand unit?

Any chance you measured the resistance before cleaning? This is purely out of curiosity.
