Belts belts and more belts
I have a 2008 HB 5spd Manual Yaris with 117k miles on it. My belt has started squeaking. I bought my Chuckles with 27k. I do not know if the belt (pretty sure I'm hearing the serpentine or what I call the timing belt) was ever replaced.
My question, and it's one that I'm kind of embarrassed to ask, is what is the best brand of belt to buy? Are some better than others? Many thanks in advance! |

I would say just about any belt will do, just stay away from Dayco.
I have a goodyear gatorback on my Yaris and i have no complaints. |

It's not a timing belt. Your car has a timing chain. The belt you're looking for is called a serpentine belt.
I just bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Bit spendy, but seems to work in my manual '07 hatchback with A/C and el. P/S. |

As mentioned, Dayco are terrible. Our customers typically get Napa (manufactured by Gates) or OE belts. Both have a good track record. I'm not a fan of Gatorbacks as they can cause a "whirring" noise on some vehicles, but are usually OK.
Do not over-tighten the belt or you will be doing a waterpump in the near future. Yaris pump bearings are a bit weak to that. Cheers. |

Thank you all! Going to be getting a new serpentine belt today. I will never again call it a drive belt or a timing belt. It's finally starting the slow process of warming up here in North Central Illinois so I can start back at the modding of my Chuckles.

Well I bought the Gates K040465 belt. And now the lower bolt on the Alternator is being soaked in AeroKroil. I fear I may have rounded the head too much but damn is that thing on there tight! I deal with aircraft hardware and those torque values are insane but this is beyond torqued! Any tips on getting that damn bolt loose?
