How to change Air Filter?

I watched a video where some guy said it was very easy for Toyota's to change air filters but apparently there's more to it than that

It's a '07 Yaris Sedan
Has ~35,000 miles and we don't want the stealership to take anymore money from us so I am going to change the air filter. Does anyone have a step by step instructions with pics?

Help would be appreciated.

Hey fellow Mass resident

It is very easy. I don't have any pictures to show, I'm sure someone else does.

It is a little difficult to explain... There are about 2 or 3 clips that hold the top of the air box. You undue the clips up and move the top of the air box up and to the side. The filter will be right in front you. Just replace it and re-install the top of the air box.
It's really straightforward. It will take you 3 minutes.

There Does Seem To Be A Trick

I replaced the air filter on my '07 Sedan last week. The two clips released the cover and the filter came out easily BUT I must have spent 30 minutes trying to align the cover and filter so the clips would align enough to snap! I probably would have saved time by removing the hose but it seemed like too much work at the time. What did I do wrong?

Once you have done it several times you will get the hang of it. You have to make sure that the 2 black plastic pieces on the left side of the air box slide into place first. Then you can lower the right side down and engage the 2 claps.

Depends on where you live and how dusty the area is. If you live cross country then maybe once a year. Easiest way to tell if it needs changing is remove it and hold it up to a light source. You should be able to easily see light in between the veins. If not then its time to change. Or if it looks dark black and is plugged full of leaves.

I have a K&N filter in both of my Yaris's. I personally believe you cant go wrong with them. They only cost $41 and will last you a lifetime. The dealer quoted me $25 for a replacement filter so the K&N will be paid for after 2 changes of a regular filter.
