Just curious to see if anyone on this forum has been able to make the rear windows of the LB "pop-out" like the old VW Beetles.

I an old school Beetle lover and think pop out would be great. There are a few thing that make it a challenge. The windows are glued on and will not come off without breaking. It's going to be hard to find a seal kit that can be adapted. Last of all you have find a hinge set that would work. If you can sort out those few things then I'd sa do it! I'd love to see it done.

That would be neat.

that would be amazing, I love rear pop-outs, and would love to see someone come up with a solution for others that do also!

If anyone wants to experiment with it, I have the left rear window from a 3dr. Crashy has every window broken, except that one, and I was able to remove it using a window removal tool that I bought at an auto parts store.

I think this is a VERY good idea, if it could be sealed well. (no rain rail) One of my only Yaris complaints is that there is a wind "oscillation" when driving with the windows down. That would improve airflow.
It would be extra-cool to adapt some of the motors from a Chrysler mini-van so they can be opened/closed remotely. (I rented one, never owned!!)

CTScott, what was involved in the removal? Any pics of the window frame with the glass out?

Below are pics of the window and the frame. The glue is unbelievable. This window was harder to cut out than the windshield was. The tool I purchased has an L shaped blade that you insert into the glue and you pull it along. It was extremely hard cutting the wide band of glue with it. After I struggled with removing it I did some research and found that a piece of piano wire is far more effective. I used the piano wire on the windshield and it cut the glue far better.

WOW! You really come-through when asked! Thanks for the pics. I'll try to locate info on the chrysler window motor assembly.

This is incorrect, they do come off, but they are difficult -- see CTScott's posts above. Body shops take them off all the time.

Either that or cover it up and make it a mini panel van look. Just by that pic, there seems to be enough metal to mount a hinge to. The only thing I could think of is the plastic interior piece might need to be trimmed a bit.

Window vent visors pretty much take care of the wind "oscillation".

This would definitely be a good mod if its possible.

It gets hot in that back seat with out the AC on.

i've been secretly wanting this since bought the car. it would improve in car air flow and probably eliminate the buffeting when one window is open..

what would be even better is to go the junk yard and get a pair of powered openers from a caravan.

i wish i had the ability(balls) to take my windows off and mess with it lol.

You could use a seal simular to the kind garm sells for sealing the hood around the window. That way keeps it air tight and water tight when its not poped out and just remove the glue. And install a hindge. If you look at the mid 90s ford escort hatchbacks. Its simular size and style pop up window. Maybe can remove the hinge from one in a junk yard and try it out. Only thing is how do you go about drilling a hole in the glass window to insert it without cracking it.

it would be nice to put in some Lexan while you are at it too.

I had an 1st gen nissan quest similar to the pic attached. The side windows had a nice slim hinge and the rear had power. Removing the middle windows were easy: pop the trim and unfasten 4 bolts.

For drilling the window, you use a diamond drill bit or bring it to a glass shop.

If someone is serious about experimenting with this they can have the left side window (that I posted the picture of above) just for the cost of shipping. I expected to break the window removing it, and was very surprised when I did not. I was going to throw it away, but then figured I'd hang onto it in case someone without glass coverage needed it.
