Yaris is the most reliable Toyota. Nice! But frankly, no surprise.

:w00t:

Funny how the cheapest car is the most reliable. Then again, it's probably due to its simplicity.

I don't understand this list, it makes no sense. So they have best and worst makes, and best and worst models within the makes. So is a best model in the 'worst' list a reliable model, or is it just the best of the worst making it a worse model????

Same for the opposite; is the worst model from a 'best manufacturer' a reliable car because it is the least good of the really good. Or is it just plain bad? The list is stupid and whoever made it should be shot. They really should have eliminated the worst models from the 'best' list and also the best models from the 'worst' list.

For example, does this mean the xB is unreliable? Or does it score marginally lower than the xD? And how reliable is the A4 supposed to be, based on these results? And why is Lexus the only company to not have a best/worst?

Sorry for the rant and thanks for the post. It's awesome the Yaris got a top 10, but I hate publications that put out jargon studies and results. . . but I haven't read the actual source article, so maybe they explain it in detail?

I thought it is pretty self explanatory.
Ranking 1 - 10 most reliable car brand, and 1 - 10 worst car brand.
Then in each brand: best and worst car.

So Scion is the most reliable brand but its least reliable is in xB and most is in xD; the rest like tC, xA, etc are in between. Combine overall reliability of all models in Scion, the rank is 1.

All I have to say is WOW. Yaris does better than Corolla, Camry, and even 4Runner!
Thank God I made the right decision.

Yes I know that, but I'm saying is that it's a useless ranking. How do you know if an xD is better than an A4? They should have points system too if they break it down by model or just leave it to brands straight up. And is the total tally by individual car or a cumulative average of all the models. It's very vague, ambiguous, and makes it easy to fudge results. I spent a lot of time doing stats and prefer these "studies" to be very exact. Sorry for the rant, it's just a personal pet peeve.

Yeah, the ranking is confusing. They have a list of worst cars and then they have worst and best among the worst. This is a total idiocy. There can only be 1 worst and 1 best...

THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING MY POINT! I can see at least somebody knows how to analyze results. There are soooo many garbage studies and statistics out there today. . .

Just imagine the headline. . . "Scion xD Worst Reliable Car According to CR," of course that is within the Scion line out of the MOST reliable group. What the heck does that even mean? HAHAHAHAHA. Garbage literary BS, that's what.

Headline, "Chrysler 300 Rated CR's "Best" reliable vehicle."

^ I agreed with your point too. It kind of makes sense to say what the most reliable model within each of the most reliable brands is, such as the Yaris within Toyota. But other than that... "worst model" among "most reliable brand" and "best model" among "least reliable brand" is kind of pointless or confusing.

To make this more confusing, the rankings are based on average of all models within the brand. So Yaris could actually be more reliable than xD. Maybe Toyota Venza is so bad that it drops Toyota from number 1 to number 6, but still Yaris is number 1 over every automobiles.

I see them as the same car with the only difference is one can make its roof magically disappear and leave a giant hole.

I guess, the convertible doesn't close its roof all the way.

I would venture a guess given some of the data I've seen that the Yaris is the most reliable car made.

It's a very reasonable assumption and if there was a way to prove it, I'd bet money on it.

You can learn a lot about cars when you work at a dealer as I did and get to drive all makes and models with all levels of age and mileage. I couldn't believe the difference I saw between my car (now at 97,000 miles) and others that were falling apart with less mileage. My car hasn't needed even one repair. It feels brand new, literally. We have seen other extreme examples like Trini_per4mance's Yaris with 420,000 miles and only one minor repair.

And I'll be honest, even the other Toyota's I saw couldn't compare with how well the Yaris is standing up. On the surface, the Yaris seems cheaply built, but this car is bullet proof.

Are you saying your Yaris can stand up to my 9mm?

I thought the same thing ... there must be something wrong with the top on the convertible. The list is confusing for sure without some kind of point ranking system. No offense, but I have to laugh at the BMW/mini placement at the bottom of the list with their overpriced vehicles.

After seeing the Venza's model, I do wonder how the Sienna ranks for reliability.
