2012 Yaris Cruise Control - Want to Add On

I wanted to get some input on my situation.

My grandfather is giving me his 2012 Yaris (2 door base model with manual windows). I live in Columbia, SC and the car is in Miami, FL. I'm flying down there on April 25th.

I was thinking about installing cruise control for the long trip back while still in Miami.

Thoughts/comments?

Thank you for your help

CTScott is the man you want to talk to. He sells all you need to do the job.

If it's base base (manual transmission), you'll need a clutch switch and a cruise stalk. If it's an auto, all you need is the cruse stalk. Pop off the airbag, plug it in, and off you go. It takes 20 minutes, and the first 15 are just waiting for the airbag system to discharge.

Like NYC-SE said, CTScott has all you need.

It's an auto transmission.

I'm glad to hear it's that simple! Sounds too easy... :bonk:

BTW, I sent CTScott a PM

I did it on a friend's '13 L. I couldn't believe how easy it was, either.

Did you have to drill a hole for the cruise control switch to go through the steering wheel housing?

I thought about buying one from Toyota pre-done if it's reasonable in cost

If you have the steering wheel shown above, there's a cover that pops off to allow access to one of the clips you need to push to remove the air bag. The cruise control switch fits through the hole. No drilling required.

You can leave the cover off, drill a hole in it to fit the stalk through, or C T Scott can most probably supply you with the correct new cover with the grommeted hole for the CC switch.

^Right. Only the 2nd gen ('06-'11) models actually require either drilling a hole or buying a whole new rear bezel for the steering wheel.

That's great news....

Next idea---> If added, will the audio buttons on the steering wheel work? Are they also just "plug and play"?:iono:

That's more of a case of having to replace the steering wheel. It also depends on the radio rssponding to the inputs.

Here in Australia, the regular asking price for a Yaris wheel with the audio buttons is around $150 Without the air bag. If you're going to spend that sort of money, you probably want to find one with the extra buttons to answer a bluetooth connected phone.
