Engine Bellhousing pattern

This might be a bit of a noob/obvious question but I'm trying to find out the bellhousing pattern on the engine and if there are any other engines that share that pattern. I've searched but have yet to find a listing of Toyota patterns.

I'm hoping that I can find a rwd tranny for it so I can use that in a Lotus 7 replica.

Tnx

Dave

If you got your hands on a wrecked yaris 4wd trany you could convert that
or transform the lotus 7 into 4wd

I can grab a low mileage engine for about $150 and it is light and for what I am doing tons of power. The car it is going in should come in around 750 lbs.

I guess the other way to ask this is what engine swaps have been done using the stock Yaris tranny. I see the one guy with the 4age but did he use the stock tranny? If he did before he dropped a turbo on it then I have a good start on finding what I need.

I gave a lot of thought to trying to use a Yaris engine in my Triumph. Ultimately, I decided to go with a Ford Duratec. It's very popular in kit cars and 7-clones, lots of aftermarket support. There is a RWD bellhousing available from the Ford Ranger/Mazda B series, and if you want a smaller/lighter transmission, there are aftermarket bellhousings available to mate it to a T5 (very common) or a Ford Type 9 (not as common in the US, but VERY small, it's what I'm using in my Spitfire).

Another really good option is VW engines. The TDI swap is very popular with the Suzuki Samurai crowd, and there's a kit available to mate the VW engine to the Samurai transmission or to a Toyota transmission. All of the water-cooled VW engines use the same bell housing, so that opens you to using pretty much ANY 4-cylinder VW engine.

While I love the idea of using a Yaris engine for something like this (my dream was to get a Yaris diesel engine and use that to build a ridiculously torquey 70 mpg little sports car... but it's just not feasible in the US, parts would never be available for it), it's clearly not the best choice. You're in the right place, though... start with the bellhousing and transmission. Find something that's readily available and fits an engine that meets your needs. Good luck!

Wonder if that's the same bellhousing pattern as the 1GZ-FE?

Why not a 4AG?

I know is old....

But...

-RWD
-High revving
-Easily available
-Cheap
-Can take a beat at the track and still take you back home...
-Lots of aftermaket support for NA applications...

yaris engine can physically bolt to:
xa/xb transmission
echo transmission

but for rwd:
yaris with a tacoma 2.7 in a rwd set up
turbo echo is making a 4age mid engine style rwd (as well as a 4age up front)
1st gen rwd car with a 1zzfed

hope that helps!
