Changing engine coolant
My manual Yaris has about 125k miles on it, so I decided it's time to change the coolant. Haven't checked the color yet, but I want to be safe. The dealer sold me 2 gallons of super long life coolant (pre-diluted), but the manual says the car needs 5.1 quarts (US). I just think this is stupid. I'm going to have 3 quarts sitting around for years until I need to change again! I'm sure other people have had this experience, so I'm curious, what did you do? Is there a way to get by with just 1 gallon and dilute it with something?

Distilled water as that is what it is dilluted with in the first place. Bear in mind that depending on your location the dilluting further may weaken the temp range so check you have the right mix for your weather conditions. Follow the guidelines in the manual on refilling and be sure to burp the system. I drained the block, overflow tank and radiator plus took out the water pump as there is a cavity behind it that will still hold coolant even after all that I did.
