Any Rift players?

I've never played WoW, or any game like it before, so I'm a noob.

But I am liking Rift -- anyone else?

OH MY GOD. i was looking into that game but I didn't personally know anyone who played the game

Is it good? What are your opinions on the game? And do you think a GTX 580 is good enough to run the game on max settings or would i need to SLI at least GTX 460s?

I played it for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed it for that time, but I'm a little burnt out on the whole MMO thing.

I think part of my problem with modern MMO's (since WoW) is that they've tightened everything up too much. It's not very convincing to be talking to an NPC that gives you quests to kill some things when the things you're supposed to kill are literally 10 yards from your current location on the other side of a fence, just standing around.

I miss the old days of EverQuest when you literally had to travel great distances to get where you needed to be. I remember having to run for 20 minutes to get to a dock to wait for a boat to another continent only to have to run for another half hour to get to the right quest zone or city. Some people thought that was too boring, I thought it added to the scope of the game and made it feel more like a believable world.

^ Rift becomes more like that when you level up, I think. What level did you reach in two weeks?

I am liking it a lot. The more you get into it, the more social it becomes. You can't defeat some of the challenges without forming a "team" that can handle it. Pretty cool.

The "world" is very dynamic, with NPC's forming gangs and running around, killing anything they can. So it's not just players doing stuff.
"Rifts" are when the world opens up and delivers NPC's.

Also, there are two main player factions, both protecting the world, but also at war with each other.

Lower levels are mostly slice 'n dice, from what I've seen so far.

Dont' know about graphics cards, except that my home comp is a monster and runs it beautifully full screen with a 25" monitor.

Like I said, I'm a noob at this, so it's pretty fresh for me.

If you like Rift, you would probably enjoy WoW a lot more. I beta tested Rift and I found that there was too much trying to happen at once and yet it lacked something which I couldn't put my finger on. I also agree that the quests were far too compact. Some of the animations were poor, yet the graphics all around were good. A single GTX 460 1gb (overclocked) ran it quite well on max settings. I'm still looking to try out the new Star Wars mmo. I can throw you a 2 week trial invite to WoW if you'd like.
