My Yaris

Does anyone else have this problem? I was told by the salesman to put plastic tie-ons on all of the hubcaps because people here will take your hubcaps. I found out the real reason for the ties a few days after purchasing the car.The hubcap fell off of the wheel! It was near the car so I put it in the car and went back to the dealer. The service dept.put plastic ties on each of the tires so the hubcaps won't fall off.
I had a 2004 Toyota Echo that didn't have this problem at all.
Also is the Yaris gas tank bigger then the old Echo? I am now paying $10 more for gas then I did with the Echo. (I compared the price of gas with the Echo in Jan 2011 and then a few days later when I bought the Yaris.)
I miss my Echo?
Is there a good place to order Yaris seat covers?
Thanks

Yes the fuel tank of the Echo is slightly larger at 45 litres compared to the Yaris at 42 litres. The Echo also has slightly better gas mileage.

You could order the leather seat covers at microimageonline or on Ebay.

Man, that dealer is crazy! Those hupcaps are cheap plastic, who's going to steal them? And I'm sure no one else here has had the problem of the hubcaps falling off the car. Since you have a new car, it'll still be under warranty, so maybe you can get new hubcaps if there is a manufacturing defect on yours.

My #1 complaint with the Yaris when I was researching them is that almost all models come with factory steel wheels. Unfortunately i accepted it's unavoidable. But it's common, especially with Toyotas.

Steel wheels are general cheap factory wheels covered with hubcaps to look like alloys. However, hubcaps can be stolen or pop off very easily. I highly doubt anyone will steal a hubcap from you, but they will fall off. And when they do, even the brand new Yaris will look like crap with a single steel wheel exposed.

Your best bet is to go for alloy wheels from another car. There's a thread on the homepage about tire problems and wheel mods. Check it out. Our Yaris have a 4bolt pattern so just make sure you get wheels with the same bolt pattern, I've seen some use of scion wheels covered with Toyota caps on the Yaris that don't look too bad.

I'm going to buy myself some alloys to put on my new Yaris, I hate the steel wheels, and the hubcaps scratch and ruin pretty easy. LAME.

It's not the dealer's fault, though. I mean they shouldn't have told you to ziptie your new car together, that doesn't make them look good. But when it comes down to it it's the car. You get what you pay for, right?

good luck!

Broken transmission

I can't believe that I had to have a new transmission put in my Yaris and it isn't even one year old! I was so happy with my old 2004 Echo!

Did you buy your Yaris new, or was it used? If it was used, did you try to obtain a vehicle history report from a service like carfax.com? The only other Yaris that I have heard of that had a transmission fail prematurely was on a Yaris in Russia that was imported used from the US. A vehicle history report on that one showed that the vehicle was in a bad crash, that more than likely damaged the transmission.

I bought the Yaris BRAND NEW!! That is why they replaced it for free! I just don't understand why I needed a new transmission in a car that wasn't even one year old! I wonder what will be next. My Echo lasted for 7 years!

your the first I've heard to report a broken transmission. Not doubting you, but yeah....this car is tough in all terms. Don't know what you or the dealer did...maybe it was a lemon?

Agree, sounds like a lemon. Did you do any research to find out if the U.S. Lemon Law applies in Guam?

on second transmission on new Yaris

I was at a gas station when it happened. I moved forward and the car started making noises and it would not stay in park! It just kept rolling forward. I had to put the emergency brake on to stop! The dealer said my transmission needs to be replaced.
What is the lemon law? I have lived on Guam a long time so don't know what the lemon law is!
I never had any prob;ems with my Toyota Echo. I loved it- it gave me great gas mileage. I immediately paid $10 more in gas with the Yaris when I got it also! I know gas prices have risen, and here on Guam we pay almost $5 for gas anyways! But it shouldn't go up that much immediately after purchasing it, and exchanging the Yaris from the Echo!
THanks for the advice!
