how to change oil pan
I was wondering if there is a manual for service on the 07 yaris, or if someone would be able to give me good instructions for replacing the oil pan due to it being demolished. due to an unfortunate idiot i now have to replace my oil pan, a tire, and possibly more. all help would be appreciated!! also posting as comment in cracked oil pan thread. wasnt sure which would be more accurate/ accesible.
-thank you |

Pan should drop straight down, an easy one. The pick up tube might be damaged too.

Drain the oil, remove all the bolts around the pan (can't remember the size, prob 12mm)
Get a flat head screwdriver and slowly pry the oil pan away from the engine block. If new pan came with a gasket then attach it. You also may need to all a rtv sealant as well so make sure you read instructions from the oil pan manufacturer you purchased from. Hand loosen all bolts and then go around torquing them to spec (don't need a lot of force). Wait an hour for sealant to set I you're using rtv sealant or whatever is recommended. Add oil back and run engine to check for leaks. Good to go. All bolts are accessible from underneath the car so just jack it up or put it on ramps and it's an easy job.

I was wrong
So the shop it was at looked at it. It's the transmission oil pan. Probably be best to let a shop do that one?

I'm not sure in the case of our Yarii (I have a manual), but the transmission pan is typically the easiest to replace because you normally take it off every transmission fluid change to swap in a new filter.

Trans pan is easy, there is even a drain plug, remove the bolts & drop the pan, scrape the old gasket, change the filter, & reassemble. Make sure you get the right trans fluid. You fill it through the dip stick tube.

The oil pan doesn't have a gasket from the factory, a formed in place gasket is used which is similar to (but not the same) as RTV sealant. There are aftermarket oil pan conventional gaskets if you want to use one, FEL-PRO OS30751 or MAHLE OS32418 are a couple examples.
