Exclamation Stupid Help? Why is this hose disconnected

been driving my new to me 2010 yaris for a couple weeks, decided to double check engine bay, oil, etc.

noticed this hose just... floating there. Nothing obvious that it connects to, and i can't see what its supposed to be to.

Anyone ?

That's the snorkel on the air intake box. It is not floating there. It is attached to the bottom of the black box you see beside it.

Yes the bottom is connected, but the top just floats there in space ?

i guess im just used to it connecting to the grill or some obvious way to funnel air vs just wiggling there in space

As other users pointed, is part of the cleaner assembly that provides the engine the necesary air for the combustion. The shape is designed to conduct air to the lower part of the cleaner, the air is forced thru the filter and large rubber hose connects to the intake manifold if i am not wrong.

right, on the subaru i traded in, the top part of this hose would have been connected to a portion of the front grille, to make sure air was being fed into the system.

It was just a little odd to see the top potion of the hose just floating free in space. Seems like having it face the grill would be better, but there is really very little need to have air forced into the system. Except maybe to make sure it was clean, cold air.

My air inlet resonator falls off while driving aggressively at 150kph and my yaris sounded like a sports car esp when i flat it out. I temporarily used 2 pcs of pvc elbow to make that u bend and it sounded like the stock air inlet resonator. I already ordered the original part 17751-0M070 and will be here in couple of days.
