I thought you were looking at an ECHO that had 200,000 miles on it and needed a muffler or something.
In which case I would have said "Yeah its worth fixing!"

Same engine as the Yaris, but it has a cable throttle.
My Echo was noticably quicker than my current Yaris in stock form. |

I guess it depends on your budget, how much you can do yourself and what performance you want in the end.
I have a lightweight crank pulley, sri, magnaflow muffler, lightened the car, short shifter (manual transmission),rear sway bar, front strut brace and slightly lower profile tires. Performance gains aren't huge but it's a really fun car to drive and I didn't spend a whole lot to do it. |

I went to the ertefa meet @ 400/7 a few weeks back. Busy.
As for the Echo, performance wise, with an auto tranny, it's not worth doing much to it. Even with a full exhaust system, lightweight pulley, light rims, you'd still have a hard time running 0-100 in less than 9 seconds... You'd be best off doing suspension mods, like springs and struts, so the car handles better and is more fun to drive around.

^ Good points. I see suspension as a performance mod, some people only count changes that make power. The Echo can be a pretty quick car in the turns.

Ummm, you know cars going 50km over get impounded right? You wouldn't need to modify the echo to get a street racing conviction in that neck of the woods. I have a heavy foot myself, so I get what you're saying, but consider time and place.

suspension is the best performance upgrade, if you can't corner all that power isnt much good.

it depends on your situation. If youve got the money to drop on a evo x or sti or Z then absolutely go for that. If you dont have the ability to get a new car then keep the echo and mod it.
