Hi, I'm new here
I visited my local dealer today to check out a Yaris. I had been talking with one of the staff by email about the cars and also about the TRD dealer installed options. I played off of the fact while there that I am on a waiting list for dibs on an orphaned smart car (which I am), and that I had other cars in mind as well. I even went as far as to have the salesman drive the car while I just rode in it to show that I am only somewhat interested (which is true).
Black 2-door automatic Yaris with only the "all weather guard package" ($110) TRD sport muffler TRD performance air filter TRD rear sway bar TRD lowering springs ($978 according to toyota.com) So later today I got a phone call with a quote: The car around $14000 + $2000 for the TRD addons So a total cost would be around $17,200 out the door. While I understand and a bit expected the dealer installed addons to have expensive labor, over $1000 for some pretty basic addons is excessive. I'm a software developer and don't make nearly that rate! Let's just say if they took 10 hours to install (unrealistic), that would be $100/hr rate... I wish I made $100 and hour! You would think there would be some type of agreement on new cars to have these addons installed on new cars for a subsidized rate. Your thoughts? Doesn't seem like a deal to me at all. I really like the fact that TRD addons are warrantied from the dealer. It was also a reason I took a closer look at the Yaris when I visited toyota.com and configured one on the site. I realize that I can do those mods it myself, but if something breaks I will inevitably have to fight the dealer to prove that my mods didn't cause the problem. Thanks in advance for any feedback you guys provide.
