Starting Problems
Hi Guys,
I need your help!!!!!!! My mother's 2007 Yaris just will not start. When you try to start it the engine just makes a ticking noise and wont turn over. Its not a battery problem because all the lights are working. I changed the spark plugs and topped up the oil. The oil was VERY low when I checked it. Can anyone help. Thanks |

sounds like a bad ground.. or your battery has a dead cell..
check ground, double check battery. the clicking is the solenoid not receiving enough amperage to fully throw the starter gear into the flywheel or flexplate |

A low charged battery will still turn the lights on. It could still be your battery.
Based on that click sound you're hearing. |

I'd put my money on the battery. Same thing happened to me before and I just refused to believe it was the battery.

it could....be the starter...but your car is still so young.... could be a bad fuse somewhere BUT i place my bets that your battery clamps are not on tightly and/or dirty. Maybe you should try removing the clamps, negative first. And when replace, make sure the negative clamp goes back on last. Leave it for couple of hours Remember, you just reset ur computer, so it can drive differently. Also, i am not responsible for anything bad =) |

Check the battery and then the starter. If its under warranty I would take it to the dealer.

Battery should read about 12-12.5 volts with the engine off. With the engine running, if the charging system is functional, it should read at least 14.
I agree, this sounds like a bad battery. |

Even if the battery reads 12v or higher... it could still be a bad battery. Voltage is not the only thing that matters... amperage is also key. Its possible for a battery that has been fully discharged, and then recharged many times to no longer hold a full charge. If this is the case, your battery might not be discharging enough energy, or quickly enough to start the car.
